***UC Irvine Class of 2022 Applicants***

@Uchopeful2022 yeah im a student of Irvine HS, i think less people are applying to uci because its mainly too close to home, and irvine isnt particularly the most interesting city. Therrs a joke here where we call it the "Irvine Bubble, because the area is pretty safe and secluded, but thining crazy ever happens lol

@1010meha haha yes, earlier I mentioned that UCI isn’t my fav, because the campus/town “vibe” feels like a clone of where I live now… That’s a perfect way to describe it, it’s like a bubble where everything is the same and nothing ever happens. Others might like that, but for me it’s kind of mind numbingly boring. My town basically feels like a real-life suburbia stereotype, and it’s been driving me bananas for about the last 10 years lol. But I’m willing to give UCI another consideration if I get in, I might feel differently about it now, a year after I last visited. Who knows lol

Everything will be ok guys-just hang in there. Feel free to vent on this thread-it’s good for you! :-*

@1010meha / @nerdgirl97 I can understand what you are saying. I am very familiar with the Irvine bubble having grown up here and lived my entire life. Having said that UCI is still a good institution.

for those who know or have experienced that, how does it feel to live in Irvine? is it more like a quiet city? any cool activities there? I’m a city person I love big places. but every place in Cali is beautiful

@Uchopeful2022 Oh for sure, it’s definitely a great school, and I love that it’s so close to the beach haha. I just wish the town was a little less suburbia stereotype. If it were, I don’t think I’d really have much to complain about the school

Edit: Not much to complain about, except for their admission office lack of communicatiion. lol

for all the amazing people in this thread who are interested or have applied to Long Beach State,

go check this brand new thread

@SweetCaliforniaWeather-12 , Lived in OC for a log time, Irvine is a very safe city but not much happening after dinner time, much more going on in the LA area which is about 1-2 hours north. Within a few miles there are multiple beaches and an hour south is San Diego.

@Gumbymom You seem to have quite a depth of knowledge with the UC system. Maybe, you can help ease my DD’s and my nerves. UCI is her last chance in the UC system and we are anxiously awaiting their decisions. Can you please chance her? Any input would be appreciated.

UC GPA: 4.25 SAT: 1340
EC: 15-20 hr wk competitive gymnastics and teaching gymnastics
NHS, Volunteering Kids Harvest, several various school clubs including leadership, volunteered blood drive, worked summers.
Biology Major.

@yippie100 thanks for the info, that’s just what I was expecting

@MamaCanoli: All I can do is quote statistics and how your DD compares. Since UC’s take into account Essays and EC’s into their application review, there is really no way to chance at applicant since these two areas are very subjective.

Average UC GPA and SAT scores for Biology majors last year was 4.00 and 1262 so your DD is above the average stats which makes her a competitive applicant.

In 2017 there was 10,156 Biology applicants and 4,681 were admitted.

Best of luck to her.

When are results coming out this is getting a little annoying lol

@Gumbymom Thank you. This waiting is really messing with our nerves.

Ok the admission decisions will not be today. Maybe tomorrow

@MamaCanoli Yeah in general I would also say your DD has a very good shot assuming that UCI has a favorable view of her ECs and essays. That being said, the UC system can be quite unpredictable from campus to campus, with some people with way above average stats being rejected and below average stats sometimes being accepted too. But speaking generally, she should have a decent shot.

@Gumbymom I know that the gpa average for uci is a little over 4.0, and looking at the uci thread from last year it appeared that most people had a gpa that didn’t deviate far from 4.0. I was wondering if you know if a lot of people who got in last year had a gpa around 3.75 or lower, and if they did get in what on their application stood out?

Or does anyone know anybody admitted to uci with below average stats?

Specifically low gpa, decent sat below 1400

@kaitlynwang I know someone who got in with a 3.6 GPA. He was involved in ECs.

@kaitlynwang: I am sure there are applicants that get in with below average stats but have some compelling essays or significant EC’s. The UC’s review all applicants based on the 14 areas of review criteria and they are all looking to put together a diverse class of students so anything and everything is possible.
