You guys do know that there are other states with equivalent colleges right? It would be better than CC or even CSU’s if your capable of a mid-tier UCs.
@lowkeyveryhighkey I saw a post where you mentioned you go into cognitive science in #5234, just wanted to check when you got the results , my son has applied for same major and no update yet on the portal.
@SmartGurl17 Lol, you seem very egocentric. Some people can’t afford the out of state tuition and UCs might be the only affordable option for them, especially those who are eligible for the Blue and Gold program.
So that’s it no more acceptances??
@phemrajani Friday around 5pm
@EatMyAnteaterUCI So you’re saying that kids who attend community college are considered unfit (or something between those lines? Do you understand kids who face financial circumstances that didn’t give them the ability to attend a university in the first place? They want to pursue it and hopefully transfer. Of course, kids who are outraged that they are waitlisted. But then again, it’s better than not making the cut.
The thing with UCI is, they don’t want a repeat from last year. They don’t want to shatter 500 students hopes and dreams that they worked hard for all these four years of their lives. I understand your outcome. I mean we’re all anxious to hear back. I am too. I couldn’t feel productive today because the portal could be updated at any time. Cherish about your acceptances because not a lot of people get into those. We just have to be patient. I’m not mad or anything but I’m justifying the argument here.
@ilikejazz Keep the faith and remain hopeful. I don’t get why schools release acceptances first, then waitlists and rejections. Just release a mix of both.
@cxprus Or release everything at once
@cxprus I think what @EatMyAnteaterUCI is trying to say is that he doesn’t want to be surrounded by those people who don’t care. He’s not saying that every single student that goes to CC doesn’t care or doesn’t try. He never said anything about there not being students who couldn’t afford other, “better” colleges. All he’s saying is that he wants to be surrounded by a lot of people who are as motivated as he, which I don’t see anything wrong with. Being surrounded by others who are motivated makes you even more motivated.
@cxprus Honestly I think they should release everything randomly and hit a certain quota each day. I understand they cant notify 100,000+ in a day. But let’s say they want to release 25,000 today, and of those 25,000 randomized acceptances, rejections, and waitlists.
@vroomvroom24 There are private universities with huge scholarships for OOS…
https://www.wiche.edu/wue - have you guys heard of this program. The fees are comparable to UC, if not cheaper after you take boarding into account. My son got into CU Denver and UCCS - but he is not keen - he wants to stick to california
isn’t it weird that there has been no more acceptances since friday/saturday? At least i haven’t seen a single acceptance today
Still nothing back…I’m starting to wonder whether I want to go to UC Irvine. I’m out of state and it’s $60K with no benefits whatsoever other than things like the FAFSA. They are also the only college I know so far that does not guarantee on-campus housing for at least three years, so I don’t know.
:^o
@SmartGurl17 out of state public schools can cost upward of 60k. Out of state private schools up to 70k. California tax dollars subsidize college for in-state students. It very difficult for high performing students that may need to stay local but are rejected from local schools out of the assumption that their high stats mean they wouldn’t attend.
:-h
@EatMyAnteaterUCI @nobiono Okay then. I could understand what the user is feeling here. It was the same thing I went through three years ago when I was gonna see what high school what I could attend. Yet someone told me this:
“It’s not the school, it’s the student.”
Three years later, it’s true. (in my case) I managed to do well and ended up having more academic opportunities in high school than the other high school I wanted to go to. Eventually, you will find people who are motivated about school. Let’s be realistic, school is not for everyone. I’ve seen it at my school. Some people want to go to the Army, get a job, do a gap year. Don’t feel discouraged because some don’t feel motivated to succeed. I mean people who follow @EatMyAnteaterUCI’s argument is probably a misconception. I mean isn’t that the purpose to go to CC? To get your GE’s done and hopefully transfer? I mean it’s really up to you. Decisions are coming, be patient. I feel nervous but I want to tell myself that everything is going to be okay. So it’s just my two cents here.
When you get in, but you’re also out of state and can’t afford it whatsoever…feelsbadman pepe meme
@SmartGurl17 I have two sisters who are in seventh and eighth grade so my family isn’t moving to California anytime soon. I think I have an uncle in San Francisco, but from the little, I know about Califonia geography Irvine to San Fran is pretty far.
Also, if their method of acceptance, waitlist, and deny is true, then the following statement is a lie (not the first):
We will notify you of our admissions decision as soon as it has been determined.
