@chipotleismylife sorry, haven’t been keeping up with this thread and may have missed something earlier, but why do you think it isnt wise to appeal if we’ve been waitlisted? i got waitlisted and was thinking about appealing as i presumed it could only help. thank you so much, any insight is appreciated!
@Cantwaitdecision: You can only SIR to one school by May 1, unless you get permission from each school to have a double deposit. You will however, have to make a decision and which school to attend and you will loose that deposit. Any reason why you would want to SIR to 2 schools?
@stressedsnr: What is the basis for your appeal? Unless you have new and compelling information to be added to your application, appealing will not help.
I could see a few reasons why one might want to SIR to different schools. For one example, let’s say that in the first semester of their senior year someone gets a unweighted GPA of 2.5 and a weighted GPA of 3.0. That would break a condition of acceptance at Berkeley or UCLA, but would be ok at any other school.
When I was going to school almost 40 years ago, I actually accepted to 4 schools (back then there were no monetary deposits, only letters of acceptance). I was very wishy washy and made a choice only after the high school principal more or less forced me to make a decision because I was supposed to accept a scholarship at graduation. As part of the speech, he needed to say out what school I was going to. True story.
I think now is a good time as any for them to learn decision making @ProfessorPlum168.
To me…That’s like telling your son or daughter it’s okay to be non committal to two people they want to be in a LTR with until they feel like it. Yea it “might” be good for your son or daughter (if even permissible), but it’s not fair to the two people that might not know nothing of the other. If everybody is cool with it then it is what it is.
We are in a capitalistic economy where people want spots and they should be filled as soon as possible. Holding a seat that another student could begin to prepare for is irresponsible. A $200 deposit doesn’t recover lost time for the school or the potential candidate waiting for a seat.
Senior year (or moving on year) is all about finishing. If you are worried about finishing (and thus not meeting the admissions requirements) then that says something about your commitment level to what you really “want”.
Also I saw a lot of parents asking why students only applied to a certain amount of schools…it’s because the application process is expensive. Even if they get their app fees waived they still have to mail in test scores and transcripts, it’s a lot of money that a lot of people just don’t have.
College is just getting harder for a lot of students because of the economy and the high cost of living of coastal california. Your goal is to get in and out of college as cheaply and quickly as possible, because life happens. I’m a 34 year old college graduate of UCI class of 2017 (with a 9 year old son, non traditional returning) so I’m not speaking from my experiences from years and years ago.
Decision: Rejected
Major: Earth System Science
GPA: 3.45
SAT/ACT: 1030
@Gumbymom I have new information that could add to my application, irvine also allows recommendation letters to be submitted, all of which I think might help
@stressedsnr: If you have new information that can backup your appeal then definitely consider appealing your decision.
if one violates the UC conditional acceptance, the UCs rescission notices can come out very late in the process. Perhaps even after some additional payments are required and housing applications. Transcripts aren’t due until July 1. Last year, there was a flurry of rescission notices at the end of July and early August. Appeals of rescissions then delay the process even further.
SIRing to two UC catches up sooner as notices two withdrawal all but one comes fairly soon after May 1
Have all decisions gone out for UCI?
@lowkeyveryhighkey inbox
@SweetCaliWeather what do you mean “inbox”?
@mintyicedtea Yes, UCI have released all decisions.
@lowkeyveryhighkey private message, lol. Got locked out of my other account so I could not reply nor read any other private message there
Guys, I want to thank and wish all the best to each one of you! This thread has been super supportive from the beginning to the end and I want to say that whatever choice you will have taken, that is something to be proud of. College is the first big step that a student can do and it is growth.
Good luck everyone for college in the fall!
got locked out of my other account so here I am
Does being accepted around the last week of February hint at anything towards Regents or CHP or is it just an early admission?
@000000f: If you were accepted for Regents or CHP, it will show on your portal. If not, then you just got Early Admission.
Has anyone received their acceptance packet yet?
@inhalexhale Usually two weeks after decisions. So I found out the 23 of March. So I’ll be expecting it this weekend.
Packet came today. Nothing fancy but LOVE the fine linen paper used for the admissions letter. UCI is the only one of son’s acceptance letters to be printed out on such pretty paper. I’m a sucker for silly stuff like that.
