***UC Irvine Class of 2022 Applicants***

@orionary i agree…life IS unpredictable, and things do change… haha

I think it’s better for me to go as undeclared because i rather EXPLORE everything beforehand before committing to a certain major. I don’t want to be one of those that picks a major, and during the year I realize it’s not what I want to do, and having to go through that process to change my major and waste more time and money.

@gothic82 chemistry isn’t that impacted in uci

I think everyone needs to be reminded that UCI doesn’t accept by major. They accept you into the school FIRST then they decide if you will fit for your top major choices. If not, they assign you into undeclared. So no need to worry if you’re scared you won’t get in if you applied for an impacted major or not

I remember when I was filling out the UC applications, I couldn’t decide whether or not going as undeclared would hurt or boost my chances of getting in. Let me just say:
UC Riverside - chemistry as my major (accepted)
UC San Diego - chemistry as my major (accepted)
UC Los Angeles - undeclared (rejected)
UC Irvine - chemistry as my major (haven’t received)

In my case, it’s hard to say. Some people are able to get into schools as undeclared while some just don’t. Honestly, I’d say if you are already leaning towards a certain major, just go for it. Sometimes it may be easier for schools to accept you if you know what you are looking for already. But of course, it’s different for everyone so! Goodluck to everyone! Just remember you’ll eventually end up where you are meant to be.

is bio super impacted at uci or ucsb?

So what does the release date look like?

@bsbewanna I got accepted to University of Washington and waitlisted at UCSD for business with a low SAT score of 1260… anything’s possible and you definitely have the edge over someone like me. I’d say your chances are high  good luck!

When is UCI releasing?? On Tuesday?

@jeremy_cohrt they released a message saying after March 20th

@SweetCaliforniaWeather-12 They announced that they would start releasing on Tuesday, but UCI does rolling admission, so it’s not a guarantee everyone will get their notification on that day.

@disneychand If you applied for engineering, do they admit you by major or by school? Thanks

I’m honestly so scared. I’m not asking to be chanced but my admissions decision could go either way.

UC GPA: 3.73
UW GPA: 3.4
W UNCAPPED GPA: 3.90
GPA is mainly due to dip in grades sophomore year, but upward trend junior year
SAT: 1300
EC: Lots of music involvement, two leadership positions, lots of tutoring
APs: 5
Waitlisted: UCSC, UCSD
Rejected: UCLA, UCD
I can’t believe the schools I was waitlisted to are far apart tier wise…

i’m honestly a bit bummed; rejected from ucsd, and i’m praying i get into uci and ucsb. i’ve already gotten into ucr with biology as my major.
my stats:
30 ACT
4.19 UC GPA
8 AP Classes (not that it rlly matters lol)
Strong EC’s and strong essays.
honestly tho, rip to class of 2018…i feel like it’s especially difficult this year

I only applied to 3 UC’s, UCI, Berkeley (probably will get rejected), and UCLA (rejected). Do you guys know anything about the top 9% of your class getting into A UC? Also, after following this thread from like day 1 I realized that my GPA (UC, weighted, and unweighted) is pretty high and my scores are pretty low. Do you think they will compensate?

@Caitlinbailey: ELC eligibility only guarantees a spot at the UC default campus of UC Merced not your choice UC.
UC’s are very GPA focused but if you extenuating circumstances contributing to your lower GPA, UC’s will takr that it into consideration.

@Disneychand I love u so much of saying that. I really hope that’s true

UGHHHH the concept of UCI and UCSB releasing the same day makes me nauseated. Not another 2 rejection day? Geesh. Sorry I am not more positive. I just am seeing some super talented people with great grades, great test scores and tons of EC’s with wonderful essays get turned away.

@LockheedMartin They wouldn’t admit by either because they admit you into UCI first, then into the major if that’s what you’re asking

@dpkrcy Of course  I’ve been lurking the threads from 2015-2017 and I’ve gathered just about as much information about UCI and the admissions process as I possibly could. (it’s my dream school and I’m a bit obsessed) But yes, I’ve visited the school multiple times and each time, the tour guide mentioned the fact that UCI admits you into the school before they assign your major, and if you don’t fit the major, then you get undeclared.
