I think I really screwed myself by applying CS major everywhere. I mean I’m leaning toward that as a major, but also a year ago I was leaning toward aerospace engineering and 6 months before that it was environmental science and before that it was psychology, now I’m still considering all those plus economics or poli sci. So who the heck knows what I’ll end up majoring in, but I’ve applied CS everywhere so made it insanely competitive for myself
@Stephanie3300 Who told you it wasn’t that popular?? I hope it waasn’t a school counselor or someone who should know what they’re talking about lol
how impacted is the chemistry major at uci?
Do you guys think I’ll possibly be able to get into UCI (1st major bio/2nd major psych) or UCSB (1st major physiology/2nd major sociology)? I feel like I should’ve just applied undeclared at all the uc’s instead of bio. I expected to be rejected from UCLA and UCSD but I’m kind of nervous bc these two schools are my last option before going to my back up school (CSULB).
stats:
UC GPA: 4.14
ACT: 29
Alright EC’s and decent essays (IMO)
(I’m mainly worried about my act score and the fact that I didn’t take subject tests:( )
Are you even guaranteed any major after you declare as undeclared major?
@SweetCaliforniaWeather-12 I actually checked my portal first and learned about my admission. The email arrived like 1 day later.
With all these comments, I dont know if it’s better to change my major into ‘undeclared’ to get into UCI, but I dont really think it counts that much.
@SweetCaliforniaWeather-12 the change major feature is still there but no longer functional, from what I’ve heard from other posters
@CopperlineX2 I even chose a second major at the time of my application so there’s first major and alternative major. Would that count?
I need an advice from local people in California, does anyone know anything on los angeles film school?
How impacted do you guys think the cognitive science major is gonna be at uci? Bc on one hand less people apply to it and on the other, it’s more selective bc it’s small?? Idk i thoight applying undeclared was bad bc i really know what I want to study and i wrote one of my essays about it and have experience in that field (ap psych and internships)
Remember at some of these schools if you go in as undeclared it is much harder to get the general ed classes that are major specific as they fill with major declared students then if there is room you can sign up. So do what you can as fast as you can to get into the major so you don’t end up there longer
Computer Science is so impacted I’m crying.
When you applied for CS program at UC, your chance of getting accepted is cutting by 50%. CS is the most competitive major.
@nerdgirl365 Oh girl, I was like in middle school, and I come from a place where literally no one wants to do anything like that. Our programs aren’t that good. I always knew it was competitive but now that I actually applied, it’s insane :’( :’(
@AbsolutePetrich My son loves UCI so much. If they reject him from CS or Software engineering or waitlist him, he’ll be crying right along with you! And he even has UCSD CS as a backup choice. I think he will think it’s the end of the world if he doesn’t get in.
My DD got accepted to UCSC, accepted to SJSU, accepted to Dominican U with an $96,000 merit scholarship for the 4 years if she accepts the offer, but then again when your looking at tuition ranging at close to $60,000 It’s help but not enough for middle class wages. waitlisted at UCD, waitlisted at SCU (broken over that one) rejected at UCLA and Pepperdine. Waiting on a school back east and UCI. I am not holding my breath or hope on either. With the exception of UCLA, I had no idea how hard or competitive it was going to be to get into school. So far i’m looking at 3/9 acceptances. Ouch!! We could have done so many things differently like EA in some schools. Maybe our chances would have been better. ):
i applied for engineering everywhere too. i justified it to myself by saying that I could easily switch out of engineering into any other major, but i couldn’t switch into engineering from any other major. i think its the right move if you think engineering is what you want to do
Does anyone know how bad chemistry is impacted?
Some of y’all gotta remember, not everybody will do what they graduated from 10-20 years later. You may get a CS degree, but what if you ended up working somewhere that’s is totally different. It’s cool to see many people “KNOW” what they wanna do, but life is unpredictable. Things can change.
