I agree the variation between UC is crazy. Daughter got in early at UcSC no honors or regents (yet?) and got honors at UCI but not at UCD ( admitted no honors) her friend admitted to Davis but rejected by UcI and the friend is 1 st in class and IB student with rejection not even waitlist. Crazy. It’s almost a coin toss anymore.

Also looking through prior years it seems UCI is opposite of UcLA. Many people get into one but not the other. I know they are independent but if you go through old threats this is a frequent occurrence.

Not sure how true the last comment is. I don’t believe that " UCI is opposite UCLA" as my daughter was admitted to both last year.

rare air to accented to both

My daughter (class of 2027) was accepted to all UCs except (UC Berkeley). I don’t think she was a super outstanding applicant but I honestly believe they liked her answers to the prompts. I do think since there are so many applications, a lot of it is luck . Good luck everyone! My youngest is applying now. Didn’t apply to all the UCs. Did get accepted to UCI . We will soon see if she gets accepted to any other UCs.

My daughter (class of 2019) also got into all UC’s including Cal (ended up going to UCLA). She did seem pretty outstanding and was insanely hardworking, but with the UC’s being such a crapshoot, we really didn’t know what to expect.

My youngest is also applying now and he’s completely different than his sister. Great grades but a very different sort of applicant. I thought the UCs were prob a long shot, but he did get into UCD and UCI. We’ll see what happens with the others. He would love to go to UCSB but knows it’s a long shot.
Hard to make rhyme or reason out of UC acceptances. I think what mo322 said is right…a lot of it is luck.
So good luck to everyone!

D20 also was accepted to UCI and UCLA. She chose UCLA.

Same. My daughter also admitted to both. As was at least 8 at her school.

Thank you Gumbymom. I did not know they save that many spots for change of major. So my DD could still apply to change major from biology to nursing the following year?

@mo322 who said anything about “ truth”? It was a generalization. Its was never stated as a hard “truth”. I said if you look over past years threads it seems that often those who get into one don’t get into the other. Many students even joke about the paradox that kids get into both Cal and UCLa but not Irvine or vice versa. Also, I was saying it to cheer up the student that didn’t get into UCI so he has hope for the others.

It was an observation that can be hugely flawed if the only indicator was people who post on these chat websites…

Congrats to your daughter she is strong to get into so many top schools.

The number of spots for internal change of majors is not confirmed. I would contact the Nursing department to make sure. It really depends upon how many Freshman and Transfers enroll since the Target class is 50 students.

Congrats to both!

In case others want to know, Computer Science and Egineering is part of the School of Engineering, and Computer Science is part of the School of Information and Computer Science. The latter offers 7 undergraduate majors like Software Engineering, Data Science, Business Information and Management, Informatics and others.

UCI said they are having 147000 applicants this year??!

Yes.

So which is better for EE major, UCSB or UCI? Did uci have better engineering schools?

Thanks for the information. We did find out later on that school name and major are both listed on the right side under “Applicant Information”, in plain sight. Somehow we just missed it in the frenzy of excitement .

Usually, when do waitlist decisions come out? My letter said anywhere from mid-April to late summer, but that sounds like a very large range of dates.
