My view on this: Leadership is about helping others and making an activity better for everyone. In a business, leadership should be about making an entire team of people work better overall. This means that leadership, IMHO, is not about getting your way. It is more about listening and solving problems, including problems that had been bothering other people.
I did a lot of public speaking in my career. Again my view: Something like 1/10 of 1% of the world’s population are born speakers. They can just get up and speak well. This was not me. Something like 1/2 of the world’s population should never give a public speach. This was not me. For the rest of us, we need practice. Preparation, practice, and constructive feedback is essential. Other people can give you pointers to help you be a better speaker. You can give other people pointers to help them become a better speaker (and this last point might be an example of leadership – helping others to be better).
This can be very important.
And developing a sense of community can be important.
