UC Riverside Class of 2029 Official Thread

Welcome prospective Highlanders. It’s that time of year again as the UC application has now opened and submission starts October 1 through December 2. I am @Gumbymomone of the two UC Forum Champions/Moderators. My Co-Forum Champion is @lkg4answers and we are knowledgeable on the increasingly complicated UC admissions process and hopefully we can help any prospective UC applicants with their questions.

UC Riverside like all the UC’s are test blind this admission cycle and will use 13 areas of criteria to review Freshman applicants. Each campus will weight the various areas of criteria differently so one size does not fit all. The UC application website has plenty of information that can help determine if UC Riverside is a good option when applying. Below is some admit information specific to the school.

Freshman admission information:
Admission by major but alternate/2nd choice major will be considered if applicant does not meet their primary choice admission standards.

UCR For Business: Freshmen students must apply to Pre-Business under the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHASS). The College breadth requirements and the prerequisites for a Business major are completed during the freshman and sophomore years. An application is submitted at the end of the sophomore year. Upon acceptance, students become Business majors and are then advised in the Business Department. Students from any academic major may also complete a Business minor.

Selective majors include majors in the College of Engineering and the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences.

New Majors:
Black study
Business Analytics
Environmental Studies
Global and Community Health
Religious Studies/Admin Studies

Most applied majors:
Biology, Psychology, Business Economics, Business Administration, Computer Science, Undeclared Humanities, Sociology, Mechanical Engineering, Biochemistry and Cell/Molecular Biology.

Please Note Even though UC Merced has been the default campus for ELC eligible applicants, some ELC referrals were made to UC Riverside for Fall 2024. The referrals were mainly in less competitive majors.

Best of luck to all applicants.

Some things new at UCR.

A new state of the art business building open or opening this fall.

New Housing construction start ..

which majors in CNAS are selective in UC Riverside ? thanks

These are the majors that were specifically mentioned:

  • Biological Sciences
  • Data Science

thanks !

Thanks.

If I look at this link - Admission: Undergraduate | Institutional Research, and select CHASS college, and select Sociology, I see an admit % of 102%. Any thought on how it can be that way. Wondering if the dashboard is good to use.

thanks

There are a few majors that list over a 100% admit rate. Either there is a glitch or the ELC referrals are not included in the original application numbers but are included in the admitted numbers.

Saw the number of applicants to UCR has surged this year!

It will be interesting if it would get tougher now to get in…

Any idea when is the result coming as the portal says early March.

Likely tomorrow. UCR has a history of releasing on March 1st.

Even if March 1st is Saturday?

The last time March 1 fell on a weekend is in 2020 on a Sunday. I saw CC decision replies came on March 2. So likely this year, it would be this Mon, March 3 around 1 pm…
