UC Riverside Transfer Fall 2016

I have to admit, I wished the UC admissions systems were more coordinated with other campuses… UCR offered me admission in March, but I won’t hear back from UCLA, UCI or UCSD until April. I feel bad knowing that by me holding out to reject (or submit) my SIR, I’m essentially preventing a student on UCR’s waitlist from being able to get in.

That being said, I still plan to attend Highlander Day - I posted a few days ago about carpooling from Orange County - I take it no one else is interested or is coming in from elsewhere? I’m thinking of coming up a day early to check out the campus on a “school day” so have a hotel room booked if anyone wants to share.

@DannyOcean Agreed. It’s a shame if they do not take people’s circumstances into consideration! Yes, my personal statement was pretty good. My counselor said it was the best one he had read!

@Eterion I agree! I wish they did a lot of things differently. It sucks knowing I might not get in, when I so desperately want to, and most of those accepted are going to go with another school. With that said, you shouldn’t feel any less proud of the accomplishment!

I think you’re an ideal candidate for UCR josolo. Your Gpa is still competitive as far as UCR is concerned. And you have your requirements finished so you have a high chance.
But yeah they don’t read personal statements
LOLOLOL
BUT if you do have gaps or anything they want questioning about they would have emailed you. I got an email from UCSB asking for transcripts and explanation of a semester of all Ws

.

@uchopeful414 I saw that you mentioned earlier in this thread that UCR housing said there’s still apartment availability. Did they mention which ones?

Hey Avery! Yeah, they said there’s a lot of open space. The ones I inquired about were Oban, falkirk, stone haven, and bannockburn. I asked how is the availability for single occupancy one bedrooms and they said there are a lot opening up. As well as shared apartments. The girl and guy(called twice, had a lot to ask), did not hesitate when I asked about their availability.

Which ones are you interested in? What’s your preference as far as roommates and all dat

That’s awesome to hear thanks so much for the info! Oban and Falkirk are definitely my top choices right now, hoping for a 2 bedroom 2 bath. Definitely don’t want to share a room though haha hopefully I get paired up with another laid back girl. I can’t wait to apply I hate that you have to wait a few days after SIR to get the NetID

I was thinking about doing a split but given my circumstances, I need to have a one bedroom for just me. Plus I’ve been renting rooms for like 3 years now I just want to live alone!
Falkirk I know from experience is a good community. Cops patrol through periodically and the interior is good. Not out of date like bannockburn. I’m hoping for Oban though!
Did you already SIR? Because yeah I had difficulty cuz I just wanted to get on the housing list ASAP and was freaking out cuz I couldn’t get into the application

Yeah, having a room to yourself can be worth it I’ve been working a lot more to save up for that very reason! Same here, when I toured a few months ago I really liked Oban the best! I SIR’d a couple of hours ago and it said I’d get my NetID in 3 business days :frowning: when did you SIR? Have you gotten your ID yet?

Are you still a dependent student?
See working is good and all but I’m getting a crazy ton of grants BECAUSE my income is 0. As of this year I’m independent and they are just throwing money at me.
Yeah I emailed them and they gave it to me. I can pretty much tell you what it is if you have a unique last name. It’s the first letter of your first name and the beginning 4 of your last. Followed by a 3 digit number. For instance if you’re the first Avery Swahili to attend UCR your id would be aswah001.
I just filled out the housing app today:) I SIR’d on Tuesdy morning. Couldn’t use the net id till today though

I hate sharing rooms.

I would get an apartment if people are willing to share an apartment with me.

You can rent my couch for 300$ a month sachill
Give you the college confidential discount

Yeah, I moved back home last year so that I could save up enough for when I transfer. I’m only 21 and working a couple part-time jobs so definitely not independent unfortunately. That’s good to know about the id though! Did you just email admissions for that? My last name is pretty common so I probably have to wait and find it out. That’s great that you got to apply though I’m jealous! Let me know when you hear back from them!

Here’s the email I used to get my id
helpdesk@student.ucr.edu
And I will! As soon as I get that phone call I’ll let you know how t goes

Awesome, thanks!

Should I SIR already? So I could get a spot for housing?

I feel like I should SIR so I can apply for housing. Definitely want my own room I think I’ll try for bannockburn but don’t know for sure. @avery760 are you for sure going to UCR?

When I toured, they told me to apply for on-campus apartments asap because they tend to fill up pretty quickly… I really don’t want to get stuck in the dorms so I’d recommend it!

Just a heads up on that sachill. If you’ve got money to lose then yes. You’ll lose the 100$ if you withdrawal your SIR. If you get a spot on housing then sign the contract and give the 200$ deposit, you will lose 75$ of it for cancellation fees. So if you are willing to sacrifice 175$ in the name of early bird gets das worm, then I say go for it.
