UC Riverside Transfer Fall 2016

@grinchmeup yeah around campus. I visited UCR once (during transfer day) but I didn’t want to tour the campus because it was getting hot that time. My mom is also willing to come with me but she has work the whole day :frowning:

@grinchmeup that’s sound fun. How many people are joining your “chass adventure group”?

I don’t mind tagging along with a group, would be great to meet other CHASS transfer students since we’re all essentially in the same boat. Thing is, I haven’t taken a good look at the schedule yet, so I may find a workshop I want to attend that others may not. The CHASS open house seems like a all-day thing too, so I don’t know if there’s a set schedule for some things or you can just come and go as you wish.

So being the 1st of April, who else frantically checked their other UC portals? =P

@grinchmeup - Hmm. Really? Why would they try to scare me off then by calling it Pre-calculus? Because I’ve seen Precalc, it’s pretty intimidating. Int. Algebra isn’t intimidating. I wonder if I can pull off taking it during the Summer at a CC (somewhat easier) and submit that to avoid taking it at the UC. I think I read somewhere that any lower div classes not completed by the time you transfer (so Precalc for instance) - has to be completed within a year of matriculation.

I’m definitely interested in touring some of the on campus apartments, but from what the agenda states - only Stonehaven and Glen Mor will be the tourable units… Stonehaven isn’t even one of my three housing app choices simply because its the farthest out (and I heard crime/break-ins is bad for that complex) - Glen Mor gives preference to prior year UCR students, so that also wasn’t on my three choices.

@grinchmeup - You’re looking at the course description for Math 4 - the one for Math 5 is here - http://mathdept.ucr.edu/pdf/syllabi/m005.pdf

The issue is there seems to be a discrepancy of some sort with which math we need to take. The UCR Psychology degree requirements state we can take one course from either Math 4, Math 5 or Math 9 - however, the ASSIST.ORG website showed that ONLY Math 5 (Precalculus) is the lower-division math requirement. Math 4 which is Business Math or something only shows up as an option on the general UCR lower div Psych degree requirements list. Hmm, I should call them next week and clarify that.

Not really looking forward to taking it at a CC - despite the somewhat easier teaching style since the only option would be taking it in the Summer before I officially matriculate into UCR - and summer time courses are pretty fast-paced. But I am considering it as a last resort if it comes down to it.

Anyone still waiting admission decision from UC R?

I have been lurking around this thread for about a month or so, finally made an account. I am still waiting on an admissions decision because half my units are from overseas and half are from a local community college. The said evaluating them takes longer. the those who are interested:
major: Bio
GPA: 3.7
Applied: UCR, UCI, UCLA
tag: UCI

the only thing you can do is wait.

Since I got admitted to UCR. do I still need to take summer class?

I somehow put “planned to take psych during summer” on my application.

Won’t be going to highlander day since I got accepted to UCSB and their open house is the same day. y’all have fun tho.

@grinchmeup it’s one of those classes that was part of the assist list. They haven’t emailed me or contact me about it.

But I’ll email them for sure, because I can’t take summer classes since I’ll be out of state for the whole summer break.

Admitted. Checked this morning

Major: Electrical Engineering
GPA: 3.49
Prerequisites: Done by end of spring.
TAG for UCR: No
Personal statement: 6/10
EC:Vice president of school club, treasurer for another club, Phi Theta Kappa, worked part-time
Igetc: done as of fall 2015

Psych research something lol

That’s frightening. I would rather take it in cc. It’s easier.

is anyone thinking of taking summer classes at any of the UCs?

@cosgirl If I end up going to UCSB I’m seriously considering it, only because I have to take a class called Math 8 as a pre-requisite for literally every other class I need to take once I’m there -.- what, am I supposed to spend my Fall semester taking one class in my major? lol

It depends on the financial aid available.

@grinchmeup i applied for summer aid but probably wont know about funding before may. I wont be going to highlander day, visited the campus just last week. I’ll be there for orientation though.

I would love to take summer classes but I don’t know how financial aid would work for that. If it doesn’t cover it then I probably wont

Ok I just got off the phone with the Financial Aid office and the woman told me that I may receive aid for summer classes, but that my Cal Grant would be reduced for the Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters. Basically the entire amount of Cal Grant I am awarded would be stretched four quarters instead of three.

@grinchmeup I haven’t picked an orientation day yet, but if i take summer classes, i’ll be living in the residence halls as well. @dgrenas793 thnx for the info. I might have to rethink taking summer classes.
