im a little confused about which session to go to =[] so the two sessions that I need to go to for psychology and biology are during the same time–does anyone know if those dictated times are actually, like, in that order; as in, it’s a intro for EVERYONE to hear step-by-step, and not like people you can talk to in booths or something? I need to attend the 10am-2pm CHASS Department Open House: The College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences and the CNAS Department Open House: The college of Natural & Agricultural Sciences.
I’m confused
Is anyone else attending those two? Anyone else going to the 2pm-3pm Preparing for a Career in the Health Professions thing as well? i’m excited omg… i hope there’s cute dudes everywhere tbh.
@sachill i want the full university/college experience!! that includes seeing a bunch of cute dudes, flirting, maybe getting some numbers, idk i love tall, semi-muscular, cute dudes it’s just who i am, i love them
do you think it’ll be like a session-session where it’s just a group of people giving general info TO EVERYONE and not, like, one-on-one with people just like grouping around people who are answering questions at specific booths or tables? 'cause if so, i could definitely get my info and bounce to my psych one lol.
@grinchmeup no offense, but you probably got banned for arguing too much or saying something inappropriate, whereas I just mentioned cute dudes; but anyways, don’t go after me and try starting drama lol.
@thecuteoneishere Yeah my counselor probably did play me, but whatever I’m sure I can still get those prereqs done i’m not too worried about that I’m just gonna have to work myself to death. I’m just waiting on UCI UCD and UCLA, but UCR is looking pretty appealing to me right now lmaoo. I hope you see all the cute dudes you can hahaha
Tons of people today! That housing line was scary but I guess that was the only place handing out free shirts!! I’m glad it wasn’t warm because Lot 30 is like in another world in terms of distance to the campus, but that was prob because I was at UCR on Friday taking tours in anticipation of Highlander Day tours being super busy.
I did get to check out the UCR Science Library - nice library. Nothing really stands out for me here though - like I was looking for reasons why I’d take this UC vs. one of my other choices if offered admission. Sometimes you go to a campus and something interests you enough to pique your attention.
Hope y’all are having a good day. Oh and don’t try the pizza at the hub - disgusting. Tastes like overcooked one-dollar frozen pizza =S.
@grinchmeup haha no problem, I should thank you for also coming with me even tho i was a bit awkward.
and thanks for giving me a whole tour of the campus!
No lie I visited today thinking I was for sure going to Santa Cruz and just felt I owed it to myself to visit UCR and I think UCR is gonna be my future home as long as I don’t get accepted elsewhere(not expecting that). I’d also like to add that I’m really sad I didn’t get one of those super cute highlander bags but I did get a frisbee. Woo!
@TwistedMetal246 hey soooo i spoke to the health professions people at their tent and the people I spoke to told me a bunch of helpful info, how like the ONLY bio class you need is the intro to bio class (one year), and a year of calculus, 2 physics classes, and gen and o chem, and you’re done. well, you need your english too but most people already have that down. so, maybe your counselor just got her info a little mixed up? it’s totally doable tho so like dont worry!
there’s also these two other associations? that totally help you get into medschool; one of them is a national fraternity and the other is like a group or something?? but there admission rate into UCRs medschool is 93% so apparently they’re really good with their help.
ALSO, the honors society that they have at UCR gives your priority registration for ALL your classes, which is helpful 'cause chem and bio classes are ALWAYS so impacted, and some of the department professors for CNAS and CHASS will get honor students for research and shadowing–which is pretty cool 'cause you get some experience–and most will even offer you a mentorship.
oh!! and one of the premed associations that i was talking to you about ALSO volunteers a lot and is in association with physicians of the inland empire, and some other things that I wasn’t really paying attention to 'cause i was way too excited lmao, and that group teaches you how to take vitals, draw blood, take BP and HR on LIVE people… omg. so pretty great.
anyways some info for you since we’re both on that premed track(:

I still have yet to hear back from UCR. What are my chances?
Anyone check out the Physics 2000 lecture hall? Oh man, I got clammy hands the minute I walked in - there’s about maybe two feet of floor space before you reach STEEP stairs going down. It’s like 10 floors of stairs - but at a very steep incline. What’s cool is the center “stage”, shaped like a circle split in half - it’s identical on both sides - chalkboard, teacher’s desk, podium, etc - but the circle rotates, so one professor can be on the other half setting up for class while another professor is on another half teaching the class.
On the other hand, my day brightened pretty quickly since my somewhat annoyed/moody post earlier - coincidentally, at the same time/day of Highlander Day, it was UCR’s SOM’s Open House 2016. I managed to land a RSVP at the last minute (found a flyer while I was wondering campus on Friday) and was able to snag a spot before they closed RSVPs. Very advanced building/equipment (I think most of the equipment/tech is 2-3 years old). The professors were awesome and the medical students (who were putting on a lot of panels/presentations) seemed very interested and eager in sharing how helpful the SOM is.
To add icing to my day, I did make out like a bandit with some legit UCR gear, so psych’d about that. Also managed to talk to the academic advisor as well, and she put a few of my concerns at ease - overall, I think I like UCR again (compared to my opinion of it on my earlier post). I was a bit dismayed about the housing line and how that meant there would be more difficulty landing a housing spot, but then one of the staffers pointed out to me that the majority of those students were incoming freshman anyway - not Transfers like all of us - and freshmen are required to live in the dorms (residence halls) their first year, so I won’t have to compete with them for a spot.
CHASS has some great resources and very caring staff/professors - like Dr. Cohen who patiently answered all my questions.
Still planning to visit UCI’s Open House next weekend, but UCR is a top contender for my Fall 2016 ticket. Hope everyone had an awesome time =)
hi everyone! so i was admitted to ucr and although it’s my safety net (still waiting to hear back from irvine, la and san diego), i want to see the financial aid award that they notified me about. i got the email saying to log onto myucr and click on “your financial aid award is ready” but i haven’t been able to navigate the site and find out how much they’re willing to give me? lol idk if i’m just really dumb or not seeing it but could anyone help me out with this? thanks!
@thecuteoneishere yeah I definitely need to get my foot in the door to some kind of association or group. Also need to find some kind of research job or something haha. Thanks for the info!
