UC San Diego Class of 2028 Official Thread

Ah yes I see that dated Feb (last month). Interesting.

Still, I personally would not attend UCSD if becoming a CS major were a central aspect of my desire/plan to attend. If admitted CS students don’t leave the major in any meaningful numbers, there won’t magically be spots to transfer into, practically speaking.

I mean obviously if you want to attend UCSD no matter what, then go for it!

I completely agree if CS is your goal, then accept a school where the applicant is a direct admit.

Hi @Gumbymom, my S24 got into the BioEngineering program and we are wondering what his options are for switching into other engineering nonCSE majors if he so desires? It seems almost every engineering major is capped at UCSD

All capped change of majors for Engineering have to go through the Capped/Selective major process.

Thank you!

Does anyone know the ranking of UCSD colleges for CS?

What do you mean? The colleges determine the GE requirements, but you can have any major in any college.

You have to provide preference list for the college. How do students going for cs major pick their preferred college? What makes them choose a particular college over others

I don’t know about CS applicants in particular, but people look at the general ed requirements (which is the biggest difference) and themes/focus of the colleges; some look at the dorms (type, age, and location). But know that there is no guarantee that applicants will get assigned to their top choice college (or even top few).

There is no “ranking” only preferences. You pick the colleges based on what you need to get out of it.

Thanks a lot

Thank you. That’s very helpful

Has any one received merit based scholarships? Regent scholarship? Jacobs School Scholarship? Thanks!

Was this a regent’s scholarship? NVM…I think Regent’s is only 5K. Wondering what scholarship is this at 30K.

Also wondering if people received scholarships yet.

I’ve heard nothing yet personally!

Heading to the Admitted Student Reception in LA tomorrow. Any idea what one would wear? Business casual?

I suspect it will be fairly casual.
S24 would probably wear jeans and a clean shirt/sweatshirt

Also going to the reception tomorrow. Did you get any info on where to park?

In one of tbe emails it said something about there being convenient parking, but at your own expense.
