UC San Diego Class of 2028 Official Thread

UC Berkeley March 28.

Yes, ivy day is Mar. 28th. UC Berkeley will release the rest of admissions on Mar. 28th

Do the UCs keep a certain number of spots for OOS and international?

The UC’s are mandated to cap enrollment at 18% for OOS and International.

Right — a cap. But do they set aside a certain percentage, more like a target percentage? I guess I’m just trying to game chances by how many OOS kids applied this year compared to last.

Sine the UC’s are restricted to the cap, they will use their historical yield data to determine how many from each applicant pool will be admitted. Some campuses have no problem meeting the cap, while others may not reach the cap. UC’s do want a diverse student body.

Here are the yield rates for 2023:

Campus OVERALL CA RESIDENT OUT OF STATE INTERNATIONAL
Berkeley 46% 50% 29% 54%
Davis 18% 23% 8% 14%
Irvine 22% 29% 9% 14%
Los Angeles 50% 59% 33% 34%
Merced 9% 10% 0% 1%
Riverside 15% 17% 5% 7%
San Diego 21% 26% 9% 17%
Santa Barbara 17% 20% 10% 16%
Santa Cruz 12% 15% 6% 5%

are results expected today ? any new information and what time PST

Looks like 30% of OOS are accepted for UCSD and UCSB . Am I right ?

UCSD probably releases decisions today around 3PT, good luck everyone

Yes around 30% but the OOS applicant pool is also 1/4 of the CA resident pool along with being more self-selecting and of course OOS costs factor into the yield rate.

thank you. We are OOS applying for business psychology .How does yield affect acceptance ?

The lower the yield, the higher the acceptance rate to reach the enrollment target. If under enrolled, then the schools go to their waitlists. If they over enroll, then acceptances will be reduced the following year. Since there is a mandated cap, they tend to be more conservative with admits and prefer to use the waitlist.

I have applied for business economics as an international. Ideally what is an acceptance rate for intl students?

so yield and acceptance almost inversely proportional that’s why seeing USD yield is low at 9% but acceptance OOS is 30%.
Reverse for UC berkeley
thank you

Overall International admit rates for UCSD are around 18%.

If I got into UCI for the business adm program ( which according to their website had an acceptance rate of 11.7% in fall 23 and 8.8% in fall 22 ) do I have a fair shot at ucsd?

Yes you have a fair shot.

Each UC campus evaluates each application without knowing the status of the same application at another campus. In making admission decisions, campuses do not consider where you’ve applied or your admission status to other campuses. All campuses consider your application simultaneously, yet independently of all other campuses you applied to.

No, I do understand that. But I was just wondering that if uci found my application competitive enough, hopefully ucsd also gives me a chance.

corollary to that. If not admitted in UCI, then UCSD rejection predictable ?

@intlstern

No, as stated each UC determines whom they admit. Getting into or not getting into a specific UC does not predict your chances at the other UC schools. As a competitive applicant, yes you have a chance at UCSD or UCSB.
