@friedchips I honestly respect all UC’s, and i don’t mean to be rude, i just think it’s stupid to choose which school to go to based on partying. That is my opinion. If you have a choice to go to ucsd or ucsb, if you choose SB, that is fine! but just don’t come on this website and comment on wether a school is dead or not by just visiting once or if your friend say so (maybe they’re not that social…?) haha that’s just what bothers me. There are future SD student who are on this thread, and you’re just planting something in their head. let them experience the school for themselves!
All I know is whatever school I SIR to is going up a ranking or two in Chem and Bio.
Majority of the ranking systems are based on Graduate programs not Undergraduate programs, so they can be misleading at times. Pick the school where you think you will get the best educatiion, is affordable and where you will be happy. @cs2015 is right, it is your unique decision and no one elses.
All depends on the person. To some people the atmosphere is important. I am picking UCSD over other schools because the program they have for computer engineering is amazing, but I also was considering UCI because I really love the campus and the surrounding area. I took into consideration research opportunities, internships available, ranking of the program I am going into, financial aid, and social atmosphere. There’s a lot of factors that may influence people’s choice of school, maybe some people give the social scene a higher priority than academics. But you can’t go wrong either way, they are all great schools. Just pick the one that makes sense to you and makes you happy, let’s not forget we are gonna spend the next two years in these schools, you don’t want to be going to a school you don’t like, just my two cents.
Leave aside the socially dead subject , UCSB has a small engineering, there are pros and cons with that. While UCSD has large engineering department, in fact, 10% of campus major in CSE, so employers will be able to have a huge selection.
Hey guys, I got accepted into Warren and my brother got into Revelle. Is it possible for us to live together on campus (at The Village)?
Can somebody please enlighten me about my housing question?

@bioC95 did you delete some of your comments on the UCLA thread? I seem to remember a post saying you got rejected, and now it’s gone…weird
@i20hndc nope, this is the only thread i’ve ever commented on
@Lucky2012 i think all of the transfer students live in the village. i don’t think the college you’re in matters.
@Lucky2012 I don’t think going to different colleges would make a difference if you are both transfers… I am not sure how it works, but if there’s a way to request a roommate like there is for freshmen, I’m sure it can happen! You should probably email the UCSD housing department for a more informative response.
I’ve had to delete quite a few posts. Any more bickering and I will close the thread.
Thank you @MaineLonghorn
My UCSD my application is down as well.
Congrats to everyone who was accepted!
Status: Accepted
Major: undeclared (applied as mechanical engineering)
GPA: 3.45 overall
IGETC: no
EC: part-time jobs (retail, small business, some journalism), Phi Theta Kappa
Also accepted to: UCI (mech e) Cal Poly Pomona (mech e)
Rejected: UCSB, UCD, CPSLO
I was pleasantly surprised to be admitted to SD at all after bombing my finals last semester, but now I’m having a crisis about whether I should change my major and go to SD. I absolutely loved the campus, but I’m not sure it will be worth the major change. Also I believe SD is the only school so far that has given me grants.
SD’s cognitive science, physics, and math-CS programs are looking quite appealing at the moment, but I know they won’t pay nearly as well as the mech.e degree will.
Am I being short sighted here by seriously considering UCSD as undeclared? I’m afraid I haven’t found a specific passion for any of these majors (they are all equally interesting), although I’ve found that I do enjoy programming.
@Overhang have you been accepted by other schools to your major of choice?
@Overhang my bad, I didn’t read your post completely. I see you were accepted to UCI and cal poly for ME. If I were you I would go with either UCI or cal poly if Mechanical Engineering is the major that you want. If you go to SD and don’t get into your ME you might end up studying something else that you may not like. My advice to you is that if you really love engineering, go to the school that is offering it to you. UCI is a great school, you should go and visit the campus, very nice, and their engineering department is quite good. I don’t know much about cal poly but I heard that is really good also, and the tuition is cheaper
Does anyone know what the reason is for the colleges for transfer students? I friend of mine who attends to SD said it really has nothing to with transfers and it is mostly for freshmans.
VP of engineering at Twitter went to UCSD, he studied Cognitive Science. I believe he also has a PhD in Cognitive Science.
