Hey guys. Those of you who got accepted off the waitlist, I was wondering if you opted in early or near the end of the waitlist deadline? Also, would that early admission only apply to bio majors because you guys seem to be the only ones accepted thus far.
Hey guys I am so worried about financial aid right now. Anyone else have a problem with the verification forms that was due on May 21st? I got admitted through the waitlist on May 22nd… and all I see is “You cannot submit verification forms after May 22nd” Please please tell me someone else is having this problem!
I opted in on the last day and got into Muir under molecular bio
@applying14 Yeah I ha the verification form problem too. It was due May 21st I submitted it in like yesterday lol.
I’m going to call them tomorrow to see what’s gonna happen.
@TonyStark93 , did you find out anything about waitlist student’s financial aid?
What did you mostly talk about on your personal statement and you got a 4.0 in your summer session?
@AlAlchemist What did you mostly talk about on your personal statement and you got a 4.0 in your summer session?
Are any of you still waiting to hear back from SD’s financial aid? I haven’t received my reward yet.
@bmirza991 It says financial aid will be awarded in the summer
I want to know if I’m going to be admitted or not. Urghh I hate being on the waitlist
I want to know too. The wait is killing me and this is the worst time to be anxious too because of finals
UCSD housing said move in day for transfer student is on September 19. Can anyone confirm this?
Hi all! I’ve been admitted from the waitlist just today. Does anyone know if there are any orientations for transfers to attend? I know the transfer day was on May 9 but will they also have one for people that got in after that? And if anyone is wondering here are my stats:
Major: physiology and neuroscience
Gpa: 3.14
@thefluffbunny congratulations! I was wondering how were you notified? Did they send you an email to check your UCSD portal?
@jdtransfer2015 thank you! I received an email this morning to check my UCSD portal so I had to sign in to see my status
@drealmccoy On my first personal statement (major related), i talked about being premed/physics major, how i had an interest in science, but also medicine for a long time. I talked about how my parents taught me that health is your most important asset, with their many health complications and hospital visits as their evidence. That im a caregiver for my mom and how physics is versatile for many scientific fields if i chose to go to grad school for a related science field instead. Also that its good for med school admissions and trains me to be a problem solver, while i also just generally enjoyed doing physics problems.
For the second special event/aspect in your life one i talked about being an awkward multiracial homosexual from a small conservative town who hated that aspect of myself and was in denial of it, but then came to accept it and helped me become more open minded, now willing to question even the most concrete seeming realities or laws in my life thanks to me finally realizing people/me who i thought were so reasonable could be wrong about something they were so sure about.
I also had a few extracurriculars related to acting (plays) and volunteering at a local free clinic (very few hours though). And i did get a 4.0 during that 12 unit summer session.
Also another question for this thread: I’ve been hearing negative things about UCSD, which is making me more hesitant towards accepting the admission offer. I’ve also been admitted to Davis from the waitlist and am having a difficult time deciding between the 2. I’ve been hearing that the atmosphere at SD is cutthroat and people are “obsessed” with being so competitive because most people that attend SD settled because they didn’t get into LA/Cal. I’ve also heard that it’s “every man for himself” out there at SD when it comes to premed culture. I’ve also heard that SD has some extremely tough science classes and I’m worried that someone of my caliber with a 3.14 gpa (I don’t think I should have gotten in in the first place) will not be able to keep up and maintain excellent grades for med school. On the other hand, I heard Davis is much friendlier and less cutthroat and has many opportunities for clinical experience. I’ve also heard that the science classes at Davis are “much easier” to get A’s in, which would tremendously help me out for med school considering my current gpa. Personally, I do want to attend SD because of its higher ranking compared with Davis, the location and the research opportunities that are available, as research is the one thing I’m lacking. With Davis, I’m not so fond of the location and the biking culture of the campus. However, good grades are a must for someone in my position.
So my question is: can anyone confirm or refute these rumors with your opinion and experiences from both schools? And what would you recommend between the two schools? Thank you in advance for your valuable opinions and time!
Good luck to everyone on the waitlist!
@thefluffbunny I visited both schools and I do believe that Davis is MUCH friendlier. People were much more willing to give me directions to places there. Then again, I am sure that you can find the right kind of people at San Diego. Just because each school has a stereotype doesn’t mean everyone is like that. I felt like there was opportunity for medical research at both schools as well. San Diego actually has two DaVinci machines on site! I think whatever you choose will be good. I kinda wish I applied to Davis now, but c’est la vie!
I am also still waiting on the SD wait list.
@thefluffbunny I think Davis is the way to go.
