@IBkidonthestreet yeah I wish I could go visit both campuses right now but sadly can’t because of covid. I live in the Bay Area.

They do offer insurance called UC SHIP. If you search that term you should be shown to a tab on the website that can provide you with more details.

I personally waive out of the school’s insurance because I have my own. The cost of UC SHIP per quarter is 680 dollars.

If you do not waive out, you are automatically enrolled into UC SHIP and must pay the fee. It should come out of any grants/loans that you accept. That’s what happened to me when I missed the deadline for Winter quarter. I would recommend also calling the Financial Aid office and asking them.

My son (3.96-ish CCC) got accepted for ChemEng.

Congrats everyone.

If I were you, I would try to appeal the decision and explain your situation. The UCs don’t accept many appeals but you could have a chance. Or try calling admissions Monday morning and ask them about it.

this feeling feels so good after getting rejected from the only other uc i applied to (UCI).
Been the toughest week of my life!

Admitted to Electrical Engineering at Sixth College.

@IBkidonthestreet hello, I was wondering if you could give me some advice. I want to go to med-school and have been accepted for my 2nd major Psychology instead of my Primary major Biology. I know you can get into med-school with any degree but I’ve really only taken 1 psychology class up till this point and am scared that I will have to take an incredible amount of classes in order to both get a psychology degree and take the classes necessary to apply to med-school/take the MCAT. I know you can switch majors but I’ve heard it’s super hard. You’re always so insightful so do you have any advice as to what I should do I got into UCR as a bio major btw.

ACCEPTED

@choiii there’s a change major option in the portal but you have to do so before committing and it can’t be an impacted major. There’s a long list though, what you want might be there.

@PursuitOfKnowledgee , UCR could be a great choice. I would do a ton of research on their med school. A couple years ago I know there were some good programs or prospects for admission to their med school with generous scholarships if you were coming from UCR. Look into that and let that factor into your decision.

As to what to do about UCSD, contact admissions and the bio department and find out everything you need to know about changing majors. It might not be possible. I would NOT go there expecting to be able to change majors without having very good reason to expect that. As for how many classes you’ll need to take for your Pysc major and to be adequately prepared for MCATS, map it out. Make your “schedule,” so to speak and see if it’s doable. Find out if they give priority registration to bio majors for the classes you’ll need, and what the chances are you will get in. Find out, too, what you can do to earn priority registration. For example, sometimes people who work orientation and things like that earn priority registration. Maybe they have an honors program that grants priority registration. If you have a learning difference, maybe you can get priority registration through Student Services (or whatever it’s called at UCSD).

Do a lot of Googling on MCAT preparation and success for Psyc majors. See what you glean there.

Good luck deciding. This stuff is SO hard.

@IBkidonthestreet yeah I plan to call on Monday and I sent an email today as well regarding the situation. I appreciate all the help thanks very much
