UC San Diego Fall 2020 Transfer Thread

Probably just based on what has happened in previous years

I feel like admissions will be less competitive this year because they need to take into account that many of their admitted/current students will not be able to attend next semester given the virus

Hi everyone! I just wanted to pop in and post my stats:

Major: English
GPA: 4.0
IGETC: Done (I’m pretty sure lol)
TAP: No
Major requirements: Done
Gender: Female
Extracurriculars/work experience: I was a Girl Scout for several years, have been working at the same job for a year, am published writer, have activism experience, and occasionally volunteer.
My essays: I think they were pretty strong. I had them reviewed by an admissions counselor at a UCLA event but I am concerned they focus too much on high school.
Applying to: UCSD, UCLA, Cal, UCI (TAG), UCSC (accepted), Pitzer, Occidental, and USC.

Best of luck to you all!

@rainofserein Yeah that makes sense, especially because some people might not be able to afford it now.

Hey guys, as were all stuck at home and working on school and everything I just wanted to stop in and put some positive energy out there. Of all of the transfer threads I’ve seen UCSD’s is the shortest. So, I figured I’d stop in and wish everyone the best!

Does anyone think it might come earlier since Freshman admissions came earlier this year

Hi all,

What was six months became a few weeks and I’m incredibly nervous, so if anyone can look at my application and tell me what my chances are that’d be great.
I go to a local community college that gets plenty of UCSD transfers
Major: Poli Sci
GPA: 3.66 as of now, will be 3.7+ after this spring, which I indicated on my additional notes with the TAU
IGETC done after this spring with 60 units and major GPA is 4.0
Essays: pretty solid, had plenty of people edit them, wrote about how politics gave me purpose as a first generation middle eastern immigrant (moved here in 2010), and how I turned my hardships into motivation.
ECs: interned for a house campaign, worked for a city council campaign, and organized for a presidential campaign. Currently work as a Registered behavior technician, a position that I earned with Hard work. Was also a part of a few clubs.

Applied: UCLA, UCB, UCD, UCR, UCSD, UCSB
Accepted: UCR with honors
Waiting:the rest of them

I’d really appreciate honest feedback, good luck to all!

Hey guys I need some help. I mixed up the course number with the course registration number when entering the academic history.

For example, I wrote “MATH 78587 Vector Analysis - MAT 021D - 001”
but the correct one should be “MAT 021D Vector Analysis”

Although I’ve added a comment in the TAU to explain this and sent the admission office my official transcript in January, I’m still wondering whether this mistake will confuse them and therefore influence my admission. Any ideas?

I’ll also post my stats here:

*International student at UC Davis
*Major: Biomedical Engineering
*GPA 4.0/4.0
*95 quarter credits completed, 17 in progress
*Transfer Prerequisite: fulfilled

*Activities: part-time graphic designer/animator on campus
founder and president of the digital art club
a lot of other activities that are not very competitive
*Essay: Plain and boring.

Applied: UCLA, UCSD, UMich
Accepted: UMich
Pending: UCLA, UCSD

I did not know that freshmen were early. Although, I would be ok with early decisions!

@Aj7510 I think your chances are quite good! I am also a Poli-Sci major but I applied specifically for the Public Law major. we are both at the top of the GPA range from last year. I don’t mean to get your hopes up, but chances are very good if this year is similar to last. I am currently 6.2 will most likely be a 3.70 following this semester.

If you go back a few pages there is a link that shows the admitted gpa range by school and major.

Good luck! I hope to be a fellow student of yours!

@AsukaLangley I don’t think it will make or brake your decision; as long as you noted the error you should be ok. I do not think it matters all that much anyway. Of course, I am not an admissions officer so I can not be sure.

Earliest would probably be the 22nd

Most likely the 24th, but the freshmen decisions did come out an entire week early, so it is possible… Of course we are all guessing haha.

Hey! I also applied for public law, but chose to put it as my alternate major. I’ve looked at the average GPA about a million times, lol.

Hi I’ve been on these threads an unhealthy amount haha but I wanna join in.
I’m 17 and a ccc student. I applied as a human Bio major with no alternative though I’m regretting it now because I really wanna get in. I finished the Igetc requirements and most major prep but I didn’t get to do organic chemistry since I was trying to transfer within 3 semesters. I have a 3.9 gpa with one b and no Ws. I also graduated high school early at age 16, but I’m not sure how much they care about this though some told me this could help me stand out.

I have an unusual situation because my community college just began offering a new bio class. I assumed since it has been offered at a sister college for quite sometime now and was accepted at most colleges it won’t be a problem, BUT I was wrong cause ofc college has to complicate things. Ucsd thankfully articulates this new class tho but it is the only UC that does so and I only applied to ucs…
This means ucsd is my only chance at transfer since the bio sequence is mandatory for consideration for admission. Ucsd has always been my dream school so I’m not completely upset but very anxious for the decision.

I got my first rejection from Ucr and it honestly destroyed me since I considered myself a strong applicant but it’s understandable due to my class situation. I’m looking into applying to USD as a back up since they extended their deadline for transfers but my heart isn’t in it, but I don’t know what I will do with myself this next year If I dint get in ucsd haha
Let me know what you think of my situation and whether u guys think I have a good chance even with the missing o chem series!

@ucsdacceptme
Cheer up bro! I think your chance is high since your GPA is very competitive (and it is impressive after knowing your age). Think about that: let’s say 15% (I made up this number) of applicants has a GPA higher than 3.9, and the acceptance rate is 56%.
Unless your essay or activities suck, why they will reject you and admit others?
Admittedly, prerequisites can be a factor. However, I don’t think UCSD asks human bio students to study ochem for the major preparation. They just need you to complete the general chemistry series. (Correct me if I’m wrong)
Anyway, good luck!

@AsukaLangley
Thanks that really meant a lot! You’re right o chem isn’t required for transfer but it is apart of the lower division major prep.
I think all any of us can do while we wait is stay positive and I hope we all get into our dream schools!

On another note why is this thread so dead… Does that mean potentially not that many students applied to ucsd this year?

UCSD is UC Socially Dead for a reason

(I’m joking didn’t mean to offend anyone if I did)

Hey fellow Polisci person! haha what did you put for your main Major? i put American Politics as my alternate…
@— on instagram if you feel like chatting,

They seem to be more dead until around decision time. UCI thread has like 68 pages now that its decision time. Of course UCLA has tons of pages because everyone and their mother applied there…

Even if we are a smaller group, we are the best group!
