Hey @Gumbymom ! Will you be starting UC admission threads for transfers soon?

Since there is no longer a UC Transfer Forum Champion, you are welcome to make the UCSB Transfer Discussion Thread. Normally they are posted under the UC Transfer Forum and not the UCSB Forum. You can follow the format from the 2024 UC Santa Cruz Transfer discussion: https://talk.collegeconfidential.com/t/uc-santa-cruz-fall-2024-transfer-discussion-thread/

More like Schrodinger’s portal: it will be both open and closed for 30 minutes

Presumably this is when waitlists are uploaded. You’re both not admitted but also not not admitted.

Good luck to everyone tomorrow for UCSB. This is such a long and draining process for students and parents alike.

I know that we’re not going to get it. We live in the Bay Area and weren’t invited for that secret meeting in San Jose earlier this month.

It wasn’t a secret meeting. It was a Chancellor’s Reception for the top 10-15% of admitted students in certain regions. Everyone else will find out their results today.

It does give an uncertain feeling when you know your (or your kid’s) stats were sky high but you didn’t get the invite. Hard to predict anything these days! Hoping for the best for you today!!

Thanks. Same for you. My S24 has been waitlisted at UC Davis and UC Irvine, so that’s probably the best that we can hope for at UCSB, I guess.

I would say to still have hope! I personally know kids this year who did not get into UCI, were waitlisted at UCSD but got into UCLA … Or waitlisted at ULCA, into UCD and denied at UCSD and Cal Poly. And kids who got into all of them. It really seems like anything goes.

It’s way more random than that. Anything can happen. But I do understand wanting to manage expectations so surprises are positive when they come. We’ll know later today!

my D24 was Accepted at UCD, waitlisted at UCI, Rejected at UCSD, Accepted at UCLA. UCLA was a different major though ( But still acceptance rate for her major at UCLA is around 10%)

Congrats to her on UCLA

If your student applied CS, just know there are so many in the same situation. Last year we saw many high stats kids from our high school get rejected. Waitlists (of course all depending on the major) do move so there is always hope!

hi,
If you get in CS/CE in UCSB, you should go to UCSB. I will not mess with FYE. My son is a senior ME at Purdue right now. Purdue make first year Engineer (FYE) really hard especially all the Calculus classes. Since Purdue has tuition freeze for 12 years now, it over admits the first year students and weed out lots over at the first year. I personal know a student who was in the Honor club, took Cal 3 three times and did not get the first choice ( Aero) of his major. FYE extends your stress for one more year…However, if you can get in the major of your choice, Purdue is amazing. My son is in the rocket club and they shoot rocket at Mojave dessert over Spring break. He interned at Lockheed Martin over summer twice and worked on spaceship. He also got three semester co-op rotation at another Areo space company. Again, it was a very stressful freshmen year and I really wont recommend if you already get into the major you want at other school.

For all of us waiting (in California) till 3pm or 3:30pm (), here is some interesting analysis from the SF Chronicle on each UC/Santa Barbara and chances depending where your kid goes to HS. Super interesting to see that some HS with great reputation have an acceptance rate much lower than others.
