Did anyone get the Chancellor’s invite? Is this a brunch? Do people get notified of Regent’s at this reception for the first time or would they already have been notified by mail?
@Gumbymom Does open house fill up or can we wait to see if admitted
I would not wait until March when decisions are posted to register.
Recently, Regents notifications will come later and not at the reception since the reception was discontinued for the last few years, usually by snail mail. There are snacks at the reception but not a brunch.
Edited: Since Regents notification timelines have changed over the last few years, you may be notified prior to the reception as noted by @lkg4answers in a later post, possibly at the reception or after the reception. We will have to wait and see.
Also got the Chancellor’s invite. Does this mean early acceptance? Or just an AD?
How did these invitations arrive? Email?
Historically, invited students were accepted at the Chancellor’s reception.
@Gumbymom are the other UC events on the same date and for UCD also just open house or are they admitted student events? Wondering if should register for all just in case? Which would be obviously a long shot.
Regular mail. Got it yesterday.
@lkg4answers compiled a list of the admitted student days/open house days. UC Davis Open house is Picnic Day on April 20th. Aggie day is admitted students day. If you cannot make Aggie day, Picnic day is great fun.

How many percent of the invited students can get regents scholarships?
For Regents, the top 1-2% of applicants will receive Regents using a Comprehensive selection process. For the Chancellor Reception invites, it is usually around the top 10% of applicants.
Congratulations to all who received invites!
UCSB stopped doing Chancellors Receptions in 2020 because of the pandemic. It is nice to see that they are bringing them back.
In the past, the receptions were held in several locations in CA and some locations out of state. Maybe someone who received the invite can share where the locations are this year.
Pre-pandemic, Regents notifications were received after the Chancellor’s invite, but before the reception. It was a large envelope with a nice navy folder and Regents certificate of achievement inside. I have one child who received it and it definitely made them feel special. When Regents Scholarship students checked in at the Chancellor’s Reception, their name badge had a red Regents ribbon under it.
We attended a reception at a hotel near LAX. It was in a large conference room with hundreds of people (parents and students). As we waited outside, current UCSB students mingled with the newbies and shared info about student live at UCSB. I wrote a summary of our experience in 2017. I assume things will be different for the new and improved 2024 Chancellor Receptions.
ETA: In the 2017 thread, priority registration was mentioned. UCSB no longer gives priority registration to Regents or Honors students.
If you think you might attend, reserving a hotel room is going to be more important than early registration for an admitted student day. Most people don’t sign up for admitted student days until after they are accepted. Some schools don’t allow you to sign up unless you are admitted.
This year will be held at San Jose/ LA /New York
does the letter mean a guaranteed acceptance?
So, I assume no one has been notified of Regents yet for UCSB?
The Chancellors Reception invitation now explains the random email my D24 received from UCSB on Friday saying they were still reviewing applications. Congrats to everyone who received the invite!
Correct, no one has been notified of Regents yet for UCSB. This is the first year since the pandemic they are holding the Chancellor’s reception, so the Regents timeline may be different.
Does anyone know how the top 10% who received Chancellor’s Reception invitations was determined? Top 10% based on what parameters?
