UC Santa Barbara Class of 2028 Official Thread

My daughter received that email also, but no invitation, so I don’t believe the two things are connected.

Top 10% along with the top 1-2% for Regents is based on UCSB’s comprehensive review criteria.

Selection Criteria

Applicants that exceed the admission eligibility requirements and UCSB considers 13 holistic review factors to review your achievements and personal qualities in the context of the opportunities and/or challenges you have experienced.

I assumed UCSB was doing something similar to what Cal did after they released early acceptances which was to send an email to all applicants saying essentially that you’re still in the running even if you did not receive the Chancellor’s Reception invite. Just speculation as the email from UCSB seemed kinda unnecessary, in my humble opinion. I mean, I would hope/assume they are busy reviewing applications :rofl:

My daughter just received an email that she was selected as a Regents Scholar with a $5k yearly award. Yet, she has not been told she was admitted. How does this work? Is this an admission before admissions are released?

Just now my daughter received an email notifying her.

Congratulations to her and yes she has been admitted. Since the Chancellor’s reception has not been held since the pandemic, they may be doing things differently but she should have a reception invite and she should be officially admitted then.

Did anyone who go the Chancellor’s invite also receive the “Here is what’s happening with your application” email last week?

My son also received the UCSB invitation by snail mail yesterday and today (around 2:30pm PST) he checked his portal and saw that he received a Regents Scholarship for UCSB.

My son received an invite in the mail to the UCSB event! So exciting! Does this mean they are planning to admit him?
It says it is a Chancellor’s Reception at a hotel in San Jose.

Did everyone who got chancellor invitation also got Regents? Or just partial got it?

Has anyone else received Regents scholarship but not received Chancellor invite?

My son got an invitation to a reception but no mention of Regents.

My D24 got Regents email today, but we haven’t received any mails for the reception.

The reception invite came in the regular mail (a paper invitation) not via email.

@ennysa
Not all reception invitees get the Regents scholarship.

@Apdem
If the Reception invite comes by snail mail, it could be delayed. If there is no convenient reception site near you, they might not send an invite?

Trying to go off my memory from a few years ago since UCSB has not had the reception in awhile.

Since the Chancellor’s Reception is only in LA, San Jose and NY this year, if you live outside those areas, you won’t receive a Chancellor’s Reception invite.

In the past, the majority of people who were invited to the reception were invited into the honors program. A very small percentage of those students are awarded a Regents Scholarship. The vast majority of students are admitted in mid March.

Does anyone have any idea where they cut off regionally, like what distance they deem is too far and therefore do not invite? The whole thing seems odd to me but I’m sure it’s just me being unfamiliar with the whole process. What is the purpose of the reception?

The purpose of the reception is to try to entice UCSB’s top admits into enrolling.

Oh no, so not everyone is necessarily admitted? We were celebrating today!
