In the past (and remember, this was 5 years ago), they announced at the receptions that everyone who received an invite, was admitted.
Again, in the past, Chancellor Reception Invites went out to the top 10-15%. Regents Scholarship offers went out to the top 2%.
I do not know if they are changing it up this year. I don’t remember UCSB ever emailing Regents notifications. So that is at least one thing that is new.
For those who applied to the College of Creative Studies and received Regents, does that mean that the student was accepted to CCS, or is that something that is yet to be determined? I remember reading that CCS admissions is separate from UCSB admissions, which is why we are unsure
I can’t say with certainty, but as a rule, top applicants usually receive their first choice in majors/colleges.
ETA: There is another thread about CCS. A faculty member from CCS is occasionally on this site and has been gracious enough to answer applicants’ questions. They are clear that they are not in admissions and can only give perspective on what happens in their department within CCS.
My senior was admitted early and received the Regents Scholarship. What a wonderful surprise because we were not expecting an early decision from UCSB. He did not get an invite to the Chancellor’s Reception. We live in Orange County so it is close enough to the Los Angeles location.
I know this might be a stupid question but I received an email about the regents scholarship. Does this mean I was accepted to UCSB? When I go to the portal it still says decision pending so I am unsure.
Historically, the portal didn’t get updated for early admits until the mid March date when everyone received their admissions status.
This is the first time UCSB has used email to inform students that they were awarded a Regents Scholarship. My guess is that someone accidently left out that very important line telling the student that they were admitted.
Ask Ms. Sun just posted the following:
“Sounds like UC Santa Barbara mailed out invitations for the Chancellor’s Receptions (in San Jose, Los Angeles, and New York) to freshman applicants in late February. Between 2017 and the pandemic (when the campus discontinued the events), the campus seemed to have only invited admitted freshmen to the receptions. It is unclear to me if only admitted freshmen are invited to this year’s reception or if the reception is open to all freshman applicants in those areas (I asked UCSB at a conference I went to on 3/1/2024 and, per usual, got a nonanswer).
In the past, invited students were preloaded into the rsvp link Chancellor's Receptions
(when you tried to RSVP, you would either get a confirmation, meaning you were invited, or the system wouldn’t recognized you, meaning you were not invited). I’m not sure if this would work as “portal astrology” (because I know that’s what you are thinking!) but I should point out that only students close to the cities where the receptions are taking place were invited (likely a very small number of applicants).”
My son just tried it and it work, we are in San Diego. He did not get an email or snail mail invitation. Does anyone have any insight? Is this real?
And then I saw this on the FAQ section:
“Your invitation does not indicate that you have been admitted. However, invitations were only sent to our highest achieving applicants in select regions.“
These dates seem off. The Chancellor Receptions were happening for years before 2017. A quick scan of CC threads shows Chancellor Reception invites being discussed every year since at least 2012.
UCSB sent invites in 2020, had a reception in NY and then cancelled the rest because of the pandemic.
Yes, I saw that, but my question is, if the RSVP link for the Chancellor’s Reception worked for my son, does that mean he has been accepted/invited ? Anyone else try the link?
