UC Santa Barbara Class of 2028 Official Thread

If we were able to RSVP-- should we go anyways? Do many people who weren’t “invited” attend?

The admission result should be released earlier than that day, I think.

Historically, if you were not invited then you could not RSVP. There is probably a glitch and UCSB will contact you that you cannot attend. Just have to wait and see.

Yikes! I hope this doesn’t mess things up for him. I am assuming they have already made their decisions and this does not help or hurt him at this time?

Since the Chancellor’s reception has not been held for several years, this information is based on the pre-pandemic event procedures.

Did you a get a confirmation for the RSVP?

It should not have a negative effect on his chances for admission but why RSVP in the first place if you were not invited??

They have limited space for the attendees so spots should go to those invited, correct?

Many times, people try to RSVP to things as a portal astrology technique.

Very true. I guess the non-invited students that RSVP’d will find out soon enough. I was trying to avoid the “portal astrology” discussion here.

You are right, not sure it is ethical to RSVP if you weren’t officially invited. Looks like you can cancel and open up spots. I guess he was on to the “portal astrology” theory. He also saw some posts saying that they weren’t invited, RSVP’d and then got invited through emails/snail mail. And his thought was maybe he didn’t get invited because we are in San Diego, which is actually a very easy trip for us.

BTW, he did get a confirmation email.

Thank you for the information. I will be interested to see what happens with the non-invitees that do not cancel. It does not help that Ms Sun posted the referenced Chancellor Reception information on her website. Just adds more confusion to the process.

My son didn’t receive the invite and I don’t intend to rsvp because 1) in my personal opinion, I think it’s a bad look for an applicant to rsvp/attend an event to which he wasn’t invited (I’m not criticizing others who did, just speaking about my own son), and 2) I know there’s limited space and I wouldn’t want to take a spot at the reception that’s intended for someone else. We’ll wait for regular UCSB decisions and see what happens.

If they had the space, I’m sure they would have expanded the counties that they sent the invites to. San Jose is already full. I’m sure LA will fill soon.

Hopefully those who didn’t receive the invite, but were just trying it to see what would happen, will cancel and open seats for those who were invited.

Curious if anyone residing in Ventura County received an invite to the Chancellor’s Reception?

Also curious about Orange County, CA. If anyone got an invite.

Few kids in my son’s school got the invitation.

My son received an invite. He did the RSVP and received a confirmation email. Today he got another email reminding him that he was confirmed to attend. It stated it was by invitation only in this email.

Thank you for the information and confirming they are noting it is by invitation only.

The follow up email my son received today said…

This event is by invitation only to our top applicants and includes yourself and 2 guest(s).

No, people who were not invited do not attend. Would you go to a wedding that you were not invited to?

Will UCSB or other UCs check the transcript of the first half of the senior year for admission?
