Anyone get appeal decisions yet ?
Unfortunately I canāt speak to that.
Then can i get off for my alt major?
I canāt answer that. I suspect it depends on your alt major(s). I donāt know if a specific waitlist without an acceptance to an alternative major means you are waitlisted for alts.
You could try to contact admissions and see if that is a possibility.
However, all of the engineering waitlisted applicants we know (itās a small sample) were accepted to their alt majors when the initial decisions were released, so to my mind it would be unlikely.
I did see in an earlier post of yours that you mentioned receiving some Bās, and some Cās in AP classes. That makes it harder for you.
My daughter will graduate with a 4.59 gpa - straight Aās across the board - with 7 APs and 5 college classes. She was loaded down with ECs and volunteer hours, was an officer in multiple organizations, and is CSF and NHS. She is ranked 7th in her class of 550 students.
And she was waitlisted for engineering.
This year saw the largest graduating class in history and competition has been fierce for all admittances, meaning kids that might have gotten into Berkeley or UCLA in other years didnāt, and they are accepting UCSB and UCSD admissions. Thatās what you are up against.
You have a hard row to hoe to get admitted to the engineering cohort.
You havenāt mentioned if you received other acceptances and committed to one. If you have, then your best strategy is to focus on where you committed. Try to find contentment in your circumstance, prepare yourself for next year, and enjoy the last few weeks of high school - you only get this chance once. If you come off the WL during that time you can enjoy that, but you wonāt be at a loss if you donāt get admitted.
My daughter is on another waitlist - for Pomona College - and if she gets in she will seriously consider the offer, but that would be a wonderful and unexpected surprise. She is not thinking about that; she is focused on preparing to attend UCSB and settling in. Clinging to a possibility to the detriment of what is already in front of oneself is not a recipe for contentment.
If you are deeply focused on only attending UCSB another option is to do CC for two years, taking the foundational requirements for engineering (calculus, physics, chemistry, etc), getting Aās in all of them, and then apply as a transfer at the end of two years.
I wish you luck.
You are waitlisted based on your primary major choice but UCSB will consider your alternate major also when pulling from the waitlist.
I will say that due to the small class sizes UCSB engineering traditionally has low acceptance rates even for transfers, weāre talking in the 10-15% range
Is CS in COE?
Yes
Anyone get off today
got off an hour ago for chem e, in state
Congrats! Were u admitted to your alt major before getting accepted by engineering?
Any news on appeals ?
initially waitlisted
Got off the waitlist for CS today. Email came at around 5pm. In-state.
i just got off for stats omg
Thanks! Congrats! We checked b/c of your post and my D25 got in too - in-state, history. I bet sheāll stick to current commitment of UW but itās definitely tempting.
yayy congrats to her!
Got off the UCSB waitlist for history about 2 hours ago!
My kid got off the waitlist today for his second choice major - pre-applied math. His first choice was computer engineering. We are in-state.
