UC Santa Barbara Class of 2029 Waitlist and Appeal Discussion

my Cs are only second semester, my first semester is a 4.0. Do they evaluate the overall senior year gpa, or by semester

The conditions of admission state each term so if you are on semester system, then they want a 3.0 weighted each semester.

does the COE waitlist acceptance rate differ from other colleges at UCSB?

UCSB like all the UC’s do not post their waitlist admit rates based on major or college only overall admitted number of students.

For 2024, the regular admit rates for the 3 Colleges were as follows:

Letters and Sciences: 32%
Engineering: 13%
CCS: 10%

FWIW–my daughter’s friends got off the waitlist last year in mid June–science majors (not sure which ones).

it usually differs based on major but anecdotally speaking I don’t know a single engineer here that got off the waitlist. Small sample size, and even smaller department.

I’m looking for some hope here - given the current financial upheaval, do you think this will trickle down into waitlist movement happening more rapidly this year, since some people might find the sticker price too steep for a UC?

I’ve been wondering the same. My wife raises a doubt
what if CA residents were thinking of going to out of state private institutions instead decide to stick with their CA in-state options.

What is the logic behind thjs

Will people typically js get off for alt choice then?

CA residents who were admitted to both UC and out of state private may, given the DoE turmoil and/or general economic turmoil, may choose to take the UC option because it is less costly.

I think it will depend on whether people got more merit OOS. I suppose everything is just conjecture at this point, however my kid did get great merit offers at private and OOS public - she just would prefer a UC personally so we are stuck in the waiting game.

No clue but I’ve heard of that happening. Idk Engineering is very small here.

Will people start getting in mid april?

Around 25000???

Can’t do 45 minutes right now. Are you saying they put 25K on waitlist? Last several years has been 15K with 10K choosing to be on it. Wow!

25k waitlisted with 12k accepting the waitlist spot only 2 days after decisions, so likely much higher.

Has anyone else gotten a financial aid offer from UCSB on the waitlist, and then they email you back a few weeks later giving you a revised offer?

Never got a revised one, but i did get the original one on march 26
