Hi! Posting for a friend because she’s never gonna use this site but we both want to help prospective transfers!

Accepted!!!
Major: Psychology
Transfer from CCC
Did not TAG any school
GPA when applied: 3.893
GPA by transfer time: 3.9ish

Finished all major pre-req’s for all schools and completed 1 foreign language course as well as 2 chemistry courses (for Psych, B.S. major req’s).

Demographics: Female, Non-US citizen permanent resident, lives in the San Gabriel Valley area

EC’s: Promoted from Web Master of Psychology Club at CC (only during 2nd year Fall semester) to President of Psychology Club at CC (only during last Spring semester), worked 30-40 hr/wk as the manager of an Amazon warehouse through 1st year, worked 15-25 hr/wk as a Behavior Therapist for children with Autism spectrum disorder through 2nd year, occasionally volunteered with American Red Cross Mental Health Department & Disaster Services.

Essays: Strong essays — as English is my friend’s second language, she struggles with using advanced vocabulary and accurate grammar. She wrote about her personal struggles (familial), the impact those experiences had on her mental health, and why they influenced her to pursue psychology as both in college & as a profession.

Applied: UCB, UCD (3rd choice), UCI, UCLA (1st choice) UCR, UCSB, UCSD (2nd choice)
Denied: UCB, UCD, UCR
Accepted: UCI, UCSB
Waiting: UCLA, UCSD

Rejected. 3.36 GPA. I think it’s because I got a D in stats and am re-taking this semester. Should I try to appeal if I pass the class?

I’m in this position right now. How many classes did you re-take? I already have over 60 units so I would only be able to transfer with a few more if I stay in CC another year.

Accepted, am I shocked, yes. Honestly was listening to fix you by Coldplay when I logged in so I could prepare for my rejection but I got accepted.
GPA: 3.47
Tbh I didn’t think I was going to get in because I took like 15 units my first year with not so good looking grades but then I got straight As for 12 units in the summer then 18 in the fall. Now I just gotta hold on to my grades in my 23 unit semester that I thought couldn’t have gotten worse but professors wanna assign more work now?.

Accepted!
Major: English
GPA: 3.42 (after Fall update)
IGETC: yes
TAG: No
Accepted: UCSC, UCR, UCSB
Rejected: UCB (Duh, lol).

I already registered at UCSC a month ago because I want to stay in the Bay Area, but congrats to everyone else who got in!

What is your stat?

Admitted!
Stats:

GPA: 3.98 / 4.00
[ *] California Community college: Mission College
[ *] Major: Psychological and Brain Sciences
[ *] Honors: Yes, with 18 units completed by the end of Spring 2020
[ *] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Toastmasters (Co-Vice Pres. Public Relations)
[ *] Job/Work Experience: Tutor at my college’s tutoring center; respite caretaker for a teenager with autism
[ *] Volunteer/Community service: N/A, except for some things I did in high school, a few of which I put on my application towards the bottom

[ *] Personal Statements:

  • Required question: I talked about my interest in psychology, connecting it back to my childhood growing up with an autistic sibling, and then talked about the opportunities I took advantage of at my community college to enrich my experience and prepare me for transfer (specifically the Honors Transfer Project, which introduced more opportunities for research that mimics what you’d see at a UC. I also briefly mentioned my job as a respite caretaker to show that I’m serious about pursuing psychology and have some experience under my belt already)
  • Creativity essay: I talked about being a journalism student in high school and how I had to think of creative, out-of-the-box solutions to manage my workload since I had two editor positions at once in my senior year. I talk about what I learned and how these skills have transferred to college.
  • Academic challenge essay: I talk about the circumstances that led me to going to community college after high school as opposed to a 4 year university and how going to community college has helped me grow as a person and as a student, and how the traits I have accumulated at the community college will help me once I transfer
  • Significant life challenge essay: I talk about growing up in America as a Pakistani-American Muslim Immigrant (i know, it’s the typical immigrant essay, blah blah) and the struggles I’ve faced in balancing two completely different cultures and finding myself in the process. Things like that. Cliche.

[ *] Applied for Financial Aid?: No
[ *] Gender: F

@ste1111 there’s an apartment shared with SBCC students but the others don’t seem like it’s exclusive for transfers. They have those learning communities so you’ll probably room with a transfer of anything

So, who’s committing? I already submitted my SIR and whatnot.

Is anyone else trying to find off campus housing in isla vista?

@ste1111 There are not any apartment complexes exclusively for transfers. But to my knowledge, most transfers are placed with transfers. For example, out of the six people who lived in my apartment this year, all of us were transfers although one was a senior who transferred in 2018.

For all the other transfers that I know, it was the same deal. I don’t know anybody who was placed with a non-transfer.

And a quick correction @hoshizora, the apartment complex you are talking about (I’m assuming) is Tropicana. It is technically not UCSB housing as it is owned by the University of California system in general and not ran by UCSB. You have to apply to live there separately and your financial aid doesn’t automatically go towards it as it does for the official campus housing. In addition, Tropicana Del Norte will no longer house both UCSB and SBCC students and will exclusively house SBCC students. The other Tropicana complex, Tropicana Gardens, will now house UCSB students exclusively.

I see I was looking at housing and it just came up

@kyang1 Thank you for that inspiration!! I got accepted into UCSC, waitlisted at UCI and UCD, and now waiting on UCLA and UCSD. I was hoping for an acceptance at UCSB because it kind-of was one of my top picks. Either way, it’s like you said, I’ll thrive wherever I go!!! ?

Hey guys, is there a Facebook or Instagram group for incoming transfer students? I got accepted and I’m looking into housing options and also potential roommates
