UC Santa Barbara Fall 2020 Transfer Thread

Hi everyone,
I’m applying as a cell & developmental biology major through TAG for UCSB. I’m personally worried as I did all the major requirements except Organic Chemistry because I, unfortunately, received a D and my GPA went from 3.8 to 3.5. Now, I did update the grade and everything on the TAU in January, indicating that I plan to repeat the class after I transfer and doing an academic forgiveness petition at my cc, but I have gotten in so far to UCR and UCD. Overall, I’m not sure if o chem was required or recommended for tag, even for admissions. I do have a 3.5 GPA, I would be coming in with a fully completed IGETC, an associate degree for transfer and the only thing making me doubtful is the D, as I had As and B’s on my record before this. would there still be a great chance of me getting in even w my GPA?

I am not expected an acceptance because I come from a CSU that prevented me from getting all of my requirements done for my major. If I do then I am just going to decline the acceptance since I am already committing to CSULB. Best wishes to you all and hope you all get in to the school of your dreams.

@Annbitious07

I think since you didn’t complete the major requirements you won’t get in with TAG. The TAG agreement says that for cell and developmental bio you have to complete all of the major requirements, and you can find those on assist.org.

I totally forgot to mention this but I emailed collin McLeod who did a presentation about tag at ucsb and he said major preparation isn’t required for tag?? that’s whats confusing me cause he’s an admissions counselor from there, does that change anything?

I dont want to be disappointed, I feel like I have a chance despite my mistake probably through admissions? and UCSB is my dream school. For some reason they’re actually not screening bio majors by what they apply for at ucsb since it says pre-biology in the portal and you declare your major after two quarters so the major any of us applied under doesnt matter i guess for regular admissions

@Annibitious07 hey, first off I don’t believe OCHEM is required as a major prep so I think your good on that front they would probably just prefer to see you’ ve taken it. Was the D in OCHEM 1 or 2 and you should try and take it in the summer to get that D replaced by whatever you get in the summer. And If your CC is not offering it in the summer try a different CC anywhere in California since the class will be online anyway.

@PursuitOfKnowledgee hey thanks for replying!! It was o chem 1 i had a C then i had two back to back finals 30 mins apart so i freaked out and cried and ended up w the D so I couldnt continue O chem :(. I thought about that ill look into it if i would appeal??

@cm86397 i went back to talk to a counselor who told me major preparation is not required, and on the prospective transfer page on ucsb’s biology page linked here: https://undergrad.biology.ucsb.edu/prospective/transfer

It says organic chemistry is strongly recommended so that’s why I wasn’t sure earlier but they do suggest it. I just hope they can see through my circumstances

I applied for the TAP program for UCLA too but at this point, I will go to UCSB if I get in.
PS. already found off-campus housing for UCSB LOL.

Do you guys think it’s better to live in university apartments or are you guys deciding to live in isla vista off campus housing?

@Ez2022 If I go to UCSB im planning on living in the university apartments so that I don’t have to stay in a dorm but still have the ability to meet new people since I’ll be assigned a roommate!

@ste1111 I feel you! I’m planning on staying in university apartments so that I can meet people and have a roommate but planning on getting my own room senior year

Does anyone know if UCSB admission decisions will be rolling? Or will every transfer applicant know at 3pm tomorrow?

@ste1111 yes! Are you leaning towards ucsb or ucla?

@Annbitious07 if ochem is strongly recommended and not a major prep requirement then you should be fine.

@ste1111 same!! ucla then ucsb! Hopefully we’ll see each other on campus since we’re the same major (if I remember correctly from the other thread) I’m gonna need a friend since I dont know anyone at either school

Lol I keep going back & forth on which I wanna live in, considering if I get in

My TAG better not get rejected for who knows what reason.
