UCF Engineering good reputation or not?

Have read all good things and visited UCF Engineering with my son. He loved the campus and staff but mostly the internship and job placement opportunities. Seemed very positive.
Someone from Siemen’s said they do not hire UCF engineers despite UCF claim that they do. Can someone shed some good insight as UCF is my son’s first choice?

I just did a search in LinkedIn, using Education =University of Central Florida, location= Orlando FL, and current company= “Siemens”, it came back with 513 folks. A lot are student interns, so Siemens seems to be actively recruiting UCF students. One person is a Lead Air Quality Engineer at Siemens and a current Adjunct Professor (engineering) at UCF. Scrolling through the list I see lots of engineers…hey, here’s one guy, “Brent”, that’s works in HR as a recruiter for Siemens Energy and is a UCF grad…

I removed “Orlando” from the search query and it came back with 612. So, most UCF grads that work for Siemens, live in Orlando (not surprising).

Keep in mind that LinkedIn only includes folks that have signed up, so the actual number would be higher.

UCF has a solid rep for engineering and it was my DD’s safety and one we would have been happy with…

UCF in general, has all of the disadvantages of a large population public school, but more so. Your sonn needs to be very proactive in making contacts with his professors/instructors, joining clubs, and pursuing internships (at places like Siemens!). Don’t expect much hand holding. Of course, Orlando is a great location. Which is a good think since a bit less than 1/2 of all UCF graduates will end up working and living in the Orlando area.

Good Luck!

You did some serious homework. Very impressive use of LinkedIn. The statistics stand on their own. Great information that validates his choice. He is being offered/applying to the Excel Program which seems to alleviate the large school population quotient in the equation.

Thank you so much for your hard work. It is much appreciated.

@Gator88NE You share great information on CC. Thanks!
