I bet $100 that the email is entirely meaningless. Any takers?
@Maltamilkbone I would bet $100 it is no indication. I got the email…my application was not the quality of an admitted student.
I’m guessing it means nothing. I love me a good conspiracy theory, though! (Deferred EA, went to RD)
@Classof2020Kid I agree with you entirely. I just find that there are way too many people just here on CC who got the email, especially because there is such a large amount of EA to RD applicants who received the email.
Oh well! We’ll find out tomorrow, everyone take a deep breath; decisions will be here before you know it
Exactly, @Maltamilkbone. But we shall see tomorrow. I couldn’t help but do some digging. . .
I read the email more carefully than my earlier skim, when I thought it was nothing. At the bottom, you can see they seem to have intended this email for three groups of people:
“For younger students and their parents”
“For our newly admitted students”
“For our college counseling colleagues and high school teachers”
Make of that what you will.
My theory is that those who received the mail were actually accepted / wait-listed students.
Most of the students who didn’t receive the mail would not know about the existence of this mail, so they won’t even bother checking this thread.
Meanwhile, the students who received the mail, wondering if it is an indication of acceptance, would search this thread to check how many else received it. That resulted in a slightly high number of students who received the mail compare to those who didn’t over here.
Barely 20 students present here received it, it may seem a high number but UofChicago accepts over 2,000 students annually and about 500 are wait- listed so fingers crossed.
I looked on Reddit, and unfortunately, I don’t believe that the e-mail is indicative of acceptance or waitlist. Someone mentioned that they received the e-mail even though they were rejected ED2. Someone else said that they contacted their UChicago regional admissions offer, “and she said the email was sent to everyone, even 9th graders who signed up to receive promotional emails. She said the emails are probably just taking a long time to get to our inboxes because of the magnitude of emails or its sitting in spam.” I wouldn’t get too optimistic over this because it looks like it will just lead to future heartbreak, for many, over the next eight hours or so.
Thanks for giving me hope, though I still think S20 has little possibility for admitting
Makes sense. Thanks for sharing! Good luck everybody, let’s all console each other later today.
What time will they release the decision?
“Hi all - AO here. Just to clarify, the COVID-19 update email was sent to all RD applicants and EA deferrals, all students admitted in prior rounds, and anyone else who signed up for one of our events. Admissions decisions for RD apps and EA deferrals are set to be released today as scheduled.”
The AO of UofChicago said this.
Well, that solves that. Although, someone on reddit did mention they got it even though they were rejected ED2. . . Oh well, not that it matters. I never thought it meant anything.
Anyone knows at around what time will the decision be released?
My son did not get that email.
We either.
We checked SPAM too. Therefore, it is not “all RD applicants”.
Just wait for few hours. You will get the result soon.
This afternoon sometime, that’s all we know. Based on EA, I’d say either 2:30 or 3:00 Chicago time, but others have said otherwise.
Maybe some of us did not receive the email due to the magnitude of the emails sent out?
