Any chance it’s coming out today?
Probably not at this point. It’s already 4:00 in Chicago.
Their latest Twitter post seems like some major foreshadowing for an admissions-related announcement very soon. Whether it is releasing decisions or announcing the date they’ll be released, IDK.
Post for reference:
"Everyone in 1543: Wow, I’m so glad that we live at the center of the universe
Nicolaus Copernicus: Are you in the right headspace to receive information that could possibly hurt you?"
It’s typically a Monday, right? So, next Monday probably?
I don’t think so, this post is referencing the educational work being done in physics at the college and combining it with a popular social media meme. I’m pretty sure it’s unrelated. I have a feeling they’d be upfront with any sort of admissions news.
Does anyone know the specific date it will be released? I’m starting to think it’s on Tuesday the 17th since there was no admissions post on twitter regarding decisions release dates…
UChicago seems active on their admissions Twitter account, but not posting anything about decisions. If they were to come out today, Dec 9, then they probably should’ve already come out by now.
Also, the admissions office closes at 5pm, so highly doubt any decisions today.
Typically admissions let’s us know a week before and usually decisions are released a week after on the 3rd Monday. Because they didn’t post anything on twitter about it today, do you guys think the decisions won’t be on the 16th? if so what day do you guys think they will come out
I mean, at this point, I think we can call off the 16th. Even though they like to do Mondays, they haven’t announced a date yet, which is what they also like to do. . . Hopefully we’ll get an announcement this week so we can know for sure what day next week. Good luck to everyone!
i like where you are going with this. 1 + 5 + 4 +3 = 13. ‘…receive information that could possibly hurt you’ does make it sound ominous and foreboding. i guess friday the 13th.
Hey Guys! I’ve been reading through this thread for a while, and I wish you all the best! About Copernicus, I looked him up with 1543 and discovered that that’s the year he died (https://www.britannica.com/biography/Nicolaus-Copernicus). So, we could read into it or it could be an honest mistake on UChicago’s part (although I doubt UChicago would do that?)
Does anyone have any idea when they’ll be released? Don’t they usually tell us the date a week before?
@Graywing007 et al: 1543 was also the publication year for Copernicus’s “revolutionary” work on planetary orbits and heliocentric theory. Just a little spark that ignited the Scientific Revolution, no big whoop.
Was there, indeed, something else hidden in the tweet? Remains to be seen. Sometimes tealeaves are just tealeaves. It’s possible that they are tossing out a hint or two; however, don’t overlook a key message: as a student at UChicago, you will be challenged by uncomfortable thoughts and ideas that defy convention or even institutional “truths.” Smile for now, but do prepare for that sometimes painful expansion of your “headspace” by this time next year.
Good luck everyone!
@JBStillFlying Thanks for clarifying! I forgot that they published his work after he died because of the fear of persecution.
Yeah, they usually do tell us a week before, so no one knows yet when the day will be.
I dont know if i should hope that this means 15:43 today about 90 mins from now…
I think that’s highly unlikely, but I wish it were true.
Well… it is now 15:50 (in Chicago)
so… I’m hoping that the Friday the 13th guess is correct.
If it is Friday the 13th, that would mean they decided to not announce on Twitter a week before like in years prior, but hey, that’s okay. The sooner the better.
