UChicago EA Applicants 2018

Does anybody know what we can do to improve our chances of acceptance after a deferral?

@imrickjamesbyach Th-that’s not comforting! D: I want to be remembered! I want bards across the land to sing of my heroism and bravery! I want my form in the stars, my name in ink, and my virtue remembered!

Can I rewrite any of my essays?

I’ll keep my main U Chicago one, but rewrite common app, Why U Chicago and the media one.

@careful not much, if anything

@Careful Send the admission office a letter telling them that you are still interested in attending.

@careful http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-chicago/1261060-advice-deferred-students.html</a></p>

It’s 8.8% now, but the RD acceptance rate a few years ago was quite a bit higher, from what I gather. I actually looked up that thread, and a person there wrote that a 10% acceptance rate was much less than the normal acceptance rate for that time. So I have to assume that the deferred acceptance rate now will still be lower than the overall acceptance rate.

Should I send my admissions counselor an email today?

Unless, of course, crytonic suspension proves otherwise.

To lighten the mood, most of us got the ‘D’…
Now we must remain anxious for another, what felt like, 10 years. UChicago knows we love them…why are they playing with our hearts?

I agree with mapletree! A deferral isn’t the worse thing! We actually have a better chance of getting in than if we’d just applied rd. And they reject people early too, just look at their twitter post. But I’m pretty certain all of us were too good to reject and they wanted to just come back to our applications later after comparing us with other applicants. There are rejections too, let’s just be excited that we didn’t get one. I know I am. My dream is still alive <3 also, take a look at this, they say that it is 10% for deferrals, which is higher than rd [UChicago College Admissions, Class of 2018 Early Action Decisions Released](<a href=“UChicago College Admissions”>UChicago College Admissions)

Deferred… Anyone know how many applicants are deferred?
Anyways, it is better than I would have expected…

Congrats to those who admitted.

Wow I must be the only person who got outright rejected

So the only two options weren’t just acceptance or deferral?

As I think about this more and more, I get more and more sad about it. I’m going to have so much work to do over the next few weeks. This is just awful.

@flyguy, I know you may see this as condescending coming from someone who was deferred, but that probably means that UChicago would never have been a good fit for you. I am sure that things will work out and you will end up somewhere that will make you truly happy. Best of Luck!

Deferred. Not surprising. Uchicago was a very high reach for me and I already got accepted ED somewhere else.

Thought I’d get rejected completely. I have a 2080 sat lol.

@Lana333 where’d you get accepted ED?

Don’t let test scores discourage you…I got a 26 on my ACT and got deferred as opposed to a rejection. Mind you, this 26 started as a 22 which I also sent to UChicago.

@akashaka: NYU

@Lana333 congrats! :D

@akashaka: thanks. :slight_smile:
Honestly, half my reasoning for applying to uchicago was me wanting to write their essay. Lol
