@Arthursbane, we do send a limited number of “likely” letters out to students in our regular decision pool, including international students. However, the number we send is VERY limited, so it should not be a concern to have not received such a letter-- the vast majority of our RD admitted students will not have received one.

@Rocketdamus, depends on your admissions cycle-- if you are an RD applicant who is admitted, we hope to provide your financial aid package with your offer of admission if you submitted your financial aid materials by our suggested deadline. If your materials were submitted after our deadline, we will try to provide your aid package as soon as possible after your offer of admission. If you are an EA applicant and have submitted your FAFSA and 2013 tax returns, we’ll be rolling out your aid package when it is finished, likely beginning late this week or early next week and continuing in to the coming weeks.

If my official semester 1 grades are only recently available, should I still submit a mid-year report? My application status says that my application is processed already.

Hi Grace,
I was wondering when will the RD decisions be released. On the UChicago website, it says in late March. However, on the applicant portal, it says in mid March…

Also, has UChicago finished releasing all the likely letters?

@iceblossom we have not yet finalized our decision release date but expect that it will be, as promised by both sources, in mid to late March I will certainly post here once we have finalized our release date.

@brbrbr we do not have a specific dean for international admissions, so your best option is to contact our international admissions team at internationaladmissions@uchicago.edu.

March 5 @iceblossom we have not yet finalized our decision release date but expect that it will be, as promised by both sources, in mid to late March I will certainly post here once we have finalized our release date.

All, we have finalized our decision release date as Friday, March 14 in the late afternoon. Decisions will be posted to your UChicago account and admitted students will receive further materials in the mail.

Hi Grace! My portal says that it is still “awaiting FAFSA” even though I already submitted it (and other schools have received it). Should I contact the financial aid office or wait patiently?

Hi there Grace, thanks for answering these questions. If it’s not too inappropriate to ask, I was wondering how UChicago approaches the application process in terms of race and income bracket. I’m an Asian male in the middle-upper class and I’ve been hearing that that’s a substantial disadvantage in the college application process (not to sound stereotypical). I know many colleges out there, especially reputable ones, make sure to admit a certain quota of race, gender, etc. to keep the class demographically diverse. Likewise, I’ve seen a couple of threads on CC discussing how certain characteristics play a bias role in how the admissions committee views certain profiles. One even stated that a white female boasting a 1300 on the SAT is equivalent to an Asian male getting a 1500. My question is simply how UChicago approaches this. Is admissions solely based on non-binding qualities, or does race, gender, and income play a generous factor? Perhaps both? Sorry for the long question, I appreciate you doing this :)

@midnightdreary, my favorite place to get coffee on campus is the Divinity School Coffee Shop, in the basement of Swift Hall. They have my preferred caffeinated drink of choice (iced green tea) and they also sell samosas from Hyde Park’s Indian restaurant, Rajun Cajun, which are a true delight.

Glad you are all excited about decision release! Late afternoon is the best I can do here. We actually do not usually know exactly when decisions will go out until the day of, as it requires a complicated Tetris of server space, correctly stuffed envelopes, and Dean Boyer availability (he comes to press the “red button”-- aka space-bar-- on the computer that triggers electronic release of decisions). We will email you on Friday when decisions are ready to be viewed in your online account.

@mrhopp, there are two parts to your question that I will answer separately because I think they merit separate discussion. We are fully need-blind for all domestic applicants, meaning that a student’s family income is not a consideration at all in our decision making.

Additonally, we maintain that having a class that includes a broad variety of students is important to maintaining social and intellectual diversity in the College. We hope to make sure that our class is diverse across many metrics-- socioeconomically (not in that we are not need blind, but that we try to provide many opportunities for lower-income students to see UChicago as an option, such as our Odyssey Scholarship program), ethnically, culturally, regionally, and particularly intellectually in that we seek students hoping for opportunities in a broad variety of fields. We do not maintain quotas for any group or qualification, nor do we have separate admissions standards for members of different groups. We hope to admit students from a broad variety of backgrounds who are academically qualified and are a good fit for UChicago.
