@UChicago is our common app essay also read?
@UChicago Is 714 words too long for the Why Chicago essay?
@UChicago Another question if you don’t mind, this time about documents that are related to financial aid.
Under “Upload Materials” on the UChicago profile I see various options of financial documentations to upload - How do I know which am I required to submit?
Also, generally, am I obligated to submit anything other than the student financial aid application? I’m an international applicant.
Thank you for the quick response for my earlier question.
@UChicago does the jan 8th extension mean all materials have to be in by jan 7th at 11:59 or jan 8th at 11:59
@UChicago I sent my regional counselor an email about a week ago and he hasn’t replied. How do I know he received it and have added new information on my app?
@UChicago I received a confirmation email, and in it was my regional counselor’s information, but after looking at the website, I believe it might be the wrong counselor. Should I proceed to email who it is according to the UChicago website?
And I already submitted my ACT score from June to UChicago, and I’m taking it again in February. Should I notify my regional counselor that I’m taking it again? Thanks.
Hi @aych1686 your Common App personal statement is read as part of your entire application.
and
@aych1686 As that deadline has passed, students who still have un-submitted materials should just get us those materials ASAP. We will still be able to use them as part of your application.
Hi @nangkhieu Focus first on writing a strong comprehensive essay. Although we recommend just a couple paragraphs, it is perfectly fine to exceed the recommendation. We have no hard word limits.
Hi @Dramaticv If you are applying for need based aid as an international student, you will need to submit the International Student Financial Aid Application (ISFAA), and any bank statements, tax information, or other financial information you feel will give us the best context for you and your family’s financial situation. The ISFAA can be found in your UChicago Account. If it is not in your account, please reach out to your regional admissions counselor.
Hi @crossovercuber Counselors receive many emails during this time of the year. In all likelihood he has received your email, and will be answering you as soon as he can. Feel free to reach out again, and do rest assured: if you have sent us materials we most likely have them, and they will be uploaded to your UChicago account!
Hi @bohemianfrenchie Reach out to who you feel is your regional counselor according to the UChicago website. If the person you reach out to is not your counselor, they will happily redirect you to the correct person.
Feel free to notify your regional counselor that you are taking the ACT again. Please remember that we will be able to use the February ACT in our deliberation for Regular Decision applicants
Hi @UChicago! What do you recommend students wear to an accepted students reception? In my area there is a reception at an alumni’s house so what should I expect the dress code to be like? Also, is it considered odd to bring a gift for the host?
@UChicago I am planning to take subject tests next weekend; should i notify my regional counselor or just send the scores as they become available?
@UChicago I have emailed my regional counselor again and sent an email to the general UChicago admissions address but no responses from both of them. Any advice?
I missed the interview registration date is there any other ways that I can re-register or ask for another chance? I really want to have an interview…
@UChicago scratch my old question; i was planning to take subject tests on the 23rd but my date has been postpone duntil feb 20th; what should i do?
Hi! The website map shows Will Herald as my regional admissions counselor (Miami/Ft. Lauderdale/Palm Beach area), but I have had no response to an inquiry to him, and two friends of mine have also had no response. I just received an email confirming completeness of my supplication, and it says Jim Nondorf, the dean of admissions, is my regional counselor. Was there a change? Is Mr. herald gone? I don’t want to reach out to the wrong person. Can you please advise as to who is the Regional Admissions Officer for Miami-Dade County? Thank you!
@UChicago If we’ve already been admitted early action, do we have to send in a mid-year report?
Hi @aykt4245. Yes, we do expect to see all your grades from your senior year, including your mid-year report.
Hi @mediapr. Will Herald is still the regional counselor for Miami-Dade County.
Hi @aych1686. Tests taken on February 20th may not get to us in time to be considered as part of your Regular Decision application. That being said, subject tests are completely optional, and not sending them will have no negative effect on your application.
Hi @nishaus. You should dress presentably at the admitted student reception but not overly formal. A button down and dress slacks or khakis for men, and a skirt or nice pants and a blouse or nicer shirt/sweater for women would be examples of an acceptable dress code. There is no need to bring a gift, however if you’d like to that is fine as well!
Hi @crossovercuber, This is a very busy time of year for us, and your admissions counselor is likely sorting through many emails on top of the applications they are reading. Rest assured that your email will be answered.
Hi @freshlemon123, Unfortunately, we are currently at capacity for our alumni interviews, and are likely not able to take on any more. Please keep in mind that this is why interviews are a completely optional part of the process, and applicants are not penalized in any way for not having interviewed. If you would like, feel free to email your regional admissions counselor with your interest in an interview, and we will add you to our alumni interview waitlist.
Re the Midyear report. Do you want it sent now for EA admittees or is it okay just to wait until the end of the year and send you a final transcript that will include those grades?
I got an email from UChicago, saying that my application is now complete and the decision will come out on mid-March. What does this mean? Does this mean that my application has been reviewed already and they decided whether I’m getting in or not? But I still have testing scores to submit… Will they review my application again if I submit my test scores? (Due to weather, the testing dates pushed back) do they still review applicant’s application after deciding whether to admit the applicant or not? I’m just so curious about the email that I got… I wonder what it means… Thank you in advance!
Hi, referring to those two inquiries above, I am a little confused; when I emailed my regional counselor, he said
the SAT delay (I’m from PA, so my SAT was pushed to February 20th because of the storm) is not a problem and that my scores can still be considered. Unlike freshlemon123, I am taking two subject tests (physics & math 2) that are really pertinent to my major and could help my application, and the scores would have been on time if it weren’t for college board’s delay. I am unsure whether UChicago can or cannot accept the scores because of the inconsistency between this thread and my regional counselor; could you clear it up for me? Thanks!
Hi, regarding the Dade/Broward Regional counselor, are you sure? When I called the admissions office to ask, they told me it is Jim Nondorf. And I have still not received a response from Will Herald from an email sent over 6 weeks ago. I just want to be sure who to reach out to!
@UChicago I’m applying to UChicago as a freshman undergraduate this year, and I’m currently in the process of submitting my federal income tax return. The guidelines require a “college or program assigned Student ID (if the student has one, or Social Security Number if he or she does not).” This is where I’m a little confused:
Do I have a “program assigned Student ID,” and if so, what is it? Is it just the e-mail address that I signed up with? Or is it my reference number? Or do I just use my social security number?
