UChicago Questions? Ask an admissions counselor!

Hi @exacademic. We need to see the midyear report as well as your final grades.

Hi @freshlemon123. The email you received was sent to confirm that all necessary parts of your application were submitted and your application could be reviewed. The email just served as a confirmation of submission. If you have updates to your application that you would like to submit (like test scores) those can still be submitted to your regional admissions counselor or uploaded into your UChicago account.

Hi @sulkyle98. Scores from the test on February 20th may get to us in time, but as we are nearing decision release, we can’t guarantee that we will be able to use those subject tests during review of an application. Your best option, to give those scores the best chance of being used, is to send a screenshot of those scores to your regional admissions counselor as soon as you receive them, and your counselor will then upload those scores to your account. To be clear as well: SAT subject tests are not required for admission. Not having them will not negatively affect your application.

Hi @mediapr. We apologize for the delay! Will Herald is your regional admissions counselor. Try one more time to email, and if there is not a response please call our office again (773-702-8659) during business hours and someone will be able to help you.

Hi @hermathena. That student ID is just your UChicago reference number, which is the number we recommend you use on the form over your social security number.

@UChicago I am an international applicant. The website says that the ISFAA and supporting documents should be sent out no later that February 1. Well I uploaded the supporting documents just yesterday. How badly will that affect me?

@UChicago I am a transfer student and I am finishing up my application for the deadline tomorrow.
I want to send in my resume along with the common app. Can I send it to collegeadmissions@uchicago.edu or should I mail it in? Thank you!

@UChicago I used “too” instead of “to” in a sentence for one of my essays. When can I appeal my rejection?

Hi @Sheroman2020II. Your late documents will not affect your aid decision.

Hi @Kgubov. You can go ahead and upload that resume under the “Additional Materials” section of your UChicago account. Feel free also to email it to your regional admissions counselor.

Hi @DynamicProphet. Don’t worry! A small typo will not negatively affect your application.

@UChicago I accidentally ended an essay with “… the University of Cheyenne’s upcoming class!” Throughout my essay, I consistently reference UChicago properly and talk about a couple specific programs at the school that interest me, but I accidentally wrote the name of another city at the end (as shown above). How badly would this affect me (considering a University of Cheyenne doesn’t exist, so it’s clear that I made an error).

Hi @mattyhan. Just reach out to your regional admissions counselor and indicate the error. A small error of this nature at the end of your essay won’t negatively effect your application, but be sure to reach out to your counselor just to clarify. You can find your regional admissions counselor using the map here: https://collegeadmissions.uchicago.edu/contact/map.

@UChicago What’s the Regular Decision release date for this year?

Hi @snackpack02. The 2016 Regular Decision release date will be March 16, 2016, in the late afternoon.

@UChicago Hey there, how worried should I be if I haven’t received an invitation for an interview by now?

@UChicago Hi! I was admitted EA and received a financial aid letter in late January. I checked my portal again today, and the financial aid letter disappeared. Has this happened to everyone, or does it mean that my financial aid package is being changed? Thank you very much!

Hi. If I did not request an interview, how bad will it affect my application?

Don’t worry – the interview really is optional. My kid and a classmate got in EA without requesting interviews and so did others who posted here.

Good luck – and try not to drive yourself crazy waiting!

Hi @Dramaticv. If you haven’t received an interview assignment by now that means we unfortunately were not able to match you with an alumni interviewer this cycle. This in no way negatively reflects on you as an applicant, but instead is just a symptom of having more students wanting to interview than we have interviewers available. Please know that not being assigned an interview will in no way negatively affect your application, as interviews are completely optional.

Hi @flaeib. Congratulations on your acceptance! The letter has disappeared because finalized financial aid decisions are being processed. The Early Action letters have been taken down in anticipation of your final award.

Hi @nangkhieu. Not requesting or not being assigned an interview will in no way negatively affect your application, as all interviews are an optional part of the admissions process.

That’s great to hear! Thank you, exacademic and UChicago

@UChicago Does having the FAFSA not showing in the FA checklist on the portal mean anything for decisions (some have this while others don’t)? Do any portal changes mean anything? It would make sense that if a school was planning on accepting you they would start looking at FA stuff, but it might be for other reasons as well. I just wanted to clarify.

That is indeed great to hear. Simply cannot wait until Wednesday

Hello @UChicago! I had a question regarding how you look at test scores. I did significantly better on my ACT than I did on my SAT (35 compared to 2050). I submitted my ACT and my SAT subject tests, but ended up accidentally sending my SAT along with the SAT II Subject Tests. Will this have any negative effect on me? I realize that applicants are looked at holistically, but in the area of standardized testing, will this pull me down at all?

Thank you so much!

Hi @VaishS. There is an issue in the sync between two of our systems, so, while the glitch is being fixed, the FAFSA item is removed from the checklist. We’ll add it back in when the issue is fixed. Overall: any changes to that checklist can happen for a number of reasons, but any changes that happen after you have submitted your materials should not be viewed with concern.

Hi @jacobpilawa. We look at the strongest test scores an applicant includes. Including the lower SAT by accident will not negatively affect your application.

@UChicago I have accidentally submitted a ‘rough’ draft of my essay for my application. It has a couple of grammatical and spelling errors. Is there anything I can do to clarify that so that it does not negatively affect my application? Please help me. Thanks.
