@Uchicago can you please accept me
@rapperfrog14 - I would! Someone who doesn’t mind begging for a chance? That’s the spirit! I really hope you get in!!
Hi! Just wondering if there is an official decision release time set? I have heard rumors of 3pm CST and 4pm CST.
Why were so many people Waitlisted this year?
^I second that. When will UChicago release the statistics for this year’s class? (which includes waitlist stats, i hope)
@DynamicProphet @JungleJim4232 I’m guessing you will not get any reply. I looked back through this thread and various other threads in which she has responded to lots of questions. This question gets asked every year, and she has never responded with a direct answer. She either ignores the question entirely, or simply links to the “helpful information” that Chicago gives wait listed students.
Maybe if enough people continue to ask the question, she might feel obligated to respond.
Hi @Kimo212. Feel free to reach out to your regional admissions counselor to clarify the situation, but rest assured that a couple of grammatical and spelling errors will not negatively affect your application.
Hi @frosh2020. Decisions were released at 4:00pm CDT yesterday. Please check your UChicago account to access your decision.
Hi @UChicago, my DD got in, also she is a national merit scholarship finalist, what needs to be done to get the merit-based NMS finalist scholarship provided by UChicago? Thanks
Hey @UChicago this is a dorky question, but will admitted students be receiving any physical materials in the mail? My mom is kind of hoping for a big envelop that says UChicago
Hi @UChicago- My D is thrilled to be accepted but still hasn’t had the financial aid award notification despite applying EA (Deferred) , sending in CSS Profile last November, Fafsa in February and 2014 tax returns as requested. We’re dying here!
Do scholarships stack? If so, which ones stack and are there some that do not? Thx!
@Rafalala There is a big envelope, some small envelopes, and even a few packages. Your Mom will have lots of photo ops soon
Hi @Sdzero. If she is a national merit finalist she is guaranteed a $4,000 scholarship. There is nothing further you or your daughter need to do.
Hi @Rafalala. Yes! An admit packet is in the mail. This will include a number of informational and admission materials.
Hi @crockmom. We appreciate your patience–financial aid packages should be released by mid-April.
Hi @goingnutsmom. You should direct any questions about scholarships and need-based financial aid to our Office of College Aid. They can be reached at 773-702-8666 or at college-aid@uchicago.edu.
In the same response, you gave @Sdzero an answer when asked about National Merit scholarships and told @goingnutsmom to “direct any questions about scholarships” elsewhere when asked about stacking scholarships. Can’t you give us general stacking info, so parents don’t have to individually contact the Office of College Aid and then post the answer on CC?
@1954Hawaiian I recently contacted the admissions office. They were kind enough to reply quickly, and told me that University Scholarships and National Merit don’t stack (which is less kind, but that’s life).
@UChicago there is a student who claimed he got off waitlist today. How many people will get off waitlist this year? Nobody really understand the wait list process. Could you please explain it?
@UChicago yes, is there any insight you can share about how the waitlist will work this year? It would be a huge help to a lot of people. Thank you.
Hi @CoramDeo7 and @cdlyw. If a student has been waitlisted, this means that we are impressed by their application but do not have room at that time to offer them a place in the class. It should be noted that we do deny students in both the Early Action cycle and Regular Decision cycle, so we are not simply waitlisting to deny. Of the students we admit, some will choose to pursue opportunities at other institutions. Once those students withdraw from our pool to attend another college or university, we will then have room to admit students from the waitlist. As a result, we will admit students off the waitlist on a rolling basis as space becomes available. All that we suggest a waitlisted student do to be in consideration if a spot opens for them off the waitlist, is to reach out directly to their regional admissions counselor indicating that they are still interested in UChicago. There is no need to send more supplementary materials (letters of rec, supplemental writing etc). We do encourage students to explore all of their college options given the May 1st reply date for most US colleges.
Our waitlist is not ranked. Year to year the number of students we put on the waitlist and the number of students whom we accept from the waitlist varies widely. There is no way for us to give an accurate representation of trends, as each year is so different.
@UChicago you earlier mentioned that students are admitted off the waitlist on a rolling basis. Can you please elaborate the term “rolling basis” used here? Is it like EA candidates who were waitlisted will be given priority? Or, is priority given to students who promptly accepted place in the waitlist? Since the waitlist is unranked, how does Uchicago maintins its list of waitlisted students.
I am sorry if these questions sounds silly.
@UChicago Maybe you clarified this point long ago, but considering there are almost 200 pages of discussion to sift through, I hope you don’t mind my asking about this simple point. On the UChicago website, you list the admissions officers by region, indicating only one officer for each portion in a state. Does this mean that only one pair of eyes eventually scans your essays and entire application?
I was under the impression that almost all the officers get to review an applicant and give their individual opinions.
