UChicago RD Decision Date: March 23, 2012

Does waitlist here mean you won’t get into Harvard or Yale?

Admissions decisions tend to be very subjective for most applicants. While schools’ results do likely correlate, each admissions event is independent.

Keep Your Head Up by Andy Grammer has seriously helped me get over my waitlist. Things are going to look up pretty soon; and if not, well, I’ll just see where life and chance will blow me. Congratulations to everyone who got in! Congrats also to everyone who tried! No one said we can’t try again (with stronger stats and ECs) for graduate school!! I hope I’ll be able to call UChicago my home four years from now. I have NOT given up!

I’m glad that Chicago found a diamond in the rough (one of many, and many more who are ultimately missed on of course) today. I didn’t have the greatest academic HS career and finished 1st semester outside of the top-10% of my class. I think it came down to fit. Whatever though, for anyone who got waitlisted/denied- the weather’s crappy in Chicago anyways!

According to collegeboard…

Wait list statistics:
Offered place on wait list: 4,888
Number accepting place: 3,203
Accepted from list: 105

UChicago only has about 1,400 students enroll each year out of the ~3,000 accepted each year. And 20,000 applicants. (Collegeboard and Collegeview both give roughly the same numbers.)

^^^ My acceptance specifically referred to my voice (unless it did so for everyone!). I was told not to edit essays more than just grammar and spelling because the more you edit the more your voice is actually taken out.

Waitlisted

I already knew that it would be really tough to get in because i saw that the number of applicants for Chicago significantly has increased over the last two years (almost like a giant leap…about 40%)…but still it looks to me that too many people are waitlisted this year:(

Not even a waitlist… awesome sauce. Please Northwestern, please.

Okay so now that many of us are waitlisted, what are we supposed to do exactly?

@scorpions the total numbers of applications was over 25,000 this year (early and regular)

Waitlist, as expected. No regrets–congrats to all who got in

Accepted! Sooooooooooooooooooo happy! Thank heavens happiest day in my life! :D

waitlisted. :P

Does anyone know what to do if you never made your portal account and the pin expired? :(

^Well you could wait for the paper letter to come in? Perhaps call the admissions office to explain your dilemma.

Waitlisted. I am so confused. What happens next???

Is everyone just jumping onto the “waitlisted bandwagon” or something, because this is definitely out of the norm.

This definitely seems strange. Its is almost as if there are more posted waitlists than acceptances. Perhaps Uchicago increased the proportion of waitlisted students this year. there definitely was an increased percentage of deferrals in the EA round, more deferrals than acceptances or rejections.

Waitlisted! :(

waiting, waiting, waiting…the word that describes my life now! With big scholarship offers and deposits to be made elsewhere, i don’t know what i’m going to do :S
Where do waitlisted students stand in that 13% rate of acceptance…what percentage are waitlisted???& What are you fellow waiters going to do besides click the button to accept the spot?
