How can they not posting decision till now…sucks

Still haven’t heard back. Maybe they accepted to many freshman or something, i mean that would explain why theyre still not posting all decisions. Theyre probably waiting to see how many freshman SIR.

I called admissions and they cited the reason for me getting rejected being that I had a few units below the minimum requirement. Apparently they counted my units wrong for TAG. They have me at 58/60 semester units, but when I notified them that I was retaking a course, and that I would have 63 units, the admissions lady agreed with me and said that I should be over. What can I do about this if UCI actually did count my units wrong? Both my application and TAG application have me at over 60 units as well.

@JPJordan - I would definitely appeal! Is there anyone at UCI you can speak to who can help you sort this out?

@Edirol I don’t know, I’m a bit lost to be honest and I called admissions several times. First lady hung up on me and second lady said to appeal but that appeals usually have really low chances of actually reversing a decision. But I mean… this is new/compelling information right? If they did count my units wrong, and assuming that was the only thing keeping me from getting accepted, wouldn’t you think they’d reverse it after reviewing again? Anyway, I ended up contacting my CC’s UCI rep, but I feel as though I need to speak to someone at UCI more closer to admissions.

@JPJordan I think due to the amount of apps and how much they were lagging- they made some mistakes.
I would check with your school councilor to see how to handle the situation. They might be able to help.

@ohwow1 Will do for sure. Also, how soon should I try to send my appeal? I know they need it to be sent by May 15th but is it the earlier the better? I’m confused what I’m supposed to write on the appeal since they counted my units wrong. I know I should mention that, but would my appeal basically be a paragraph or two?

There should be instructions on how to appeal with the rejection I believe. Also, this might help:

What are the chances of a humanities major with a 3.17 gpa getting off the waitlist? Is it true that I can appeal my waitlist status?

  • bloop wrong thread

@futurezotter I’m trying to figure out the same
Thing. I’m on the wait list too. According to some posters from ms sun’s blog, you can but I read it’s only new and compelling info. Wouldnt a majority of applicants already state everything in the app already?

Waitlisted found out wednesday 4/29
Major: Sociology
GPA: cumulative 3.24 even though past three semesters is 3.6
IGETC: Complete
Major Courses: Completed all
Accepted: ucsc
Waitlisted: ucd, uci, ucsd
rejected: ucla

@CancelOut this is stressing me out. I’m thankful that i have the opportunity to be on the waitlist but I’m also afraid of being rejected which is why I’m trying to appeal the waitlist decision. I’m about done with my de facto rough draft of my appeal; I feel that I successfully included “new and compelling” information but there’s also components from my original application that I wrote about. Really don’t want to have to wait again only to face the possibility of rejection. Good luck to you! Here’s some info on the protocol for the appeal process, if you really want to appeal your waitlist decision I suggest you look into it ASAP. http://services.admissions.uci.edu/resources/appeal_information.html

If you don’t mind me asking, what is your major and GPA? Keep in touch! I need someone with the same issue to collaborate with.

@futurezotter Thank You! I hope for the best for both of us. My UC GPA is a 3.05 and my major is psychology and social behavior alt is criminology. I believe my major gpa was a 3.25 for psych and 3.6 for criminology. I don’t know if I have “new and compelling information” but I wanna appeal as well. I feel that it would only benefit you and if it doesn’t work it wouldn’t affect you.

@CancelOut I appealed as well, I also appealed for San Jose State and got in. My appeal for UCI was the same as my one for san jose, basically I was humble but at the same time very confident. I wanted them to read it as if I will be successful with or without the school, but like I said at the same time I was very polite and humble. This is just what I wrote, it might or might not be good for other people to follow this advice but I truly felt that was the way to go for ME. I hope all turns out well and that we both get in.

@ayymig you appealed SJSU off the waitlist or a rejection? That’s great to know regardless. congrats! When you described being successful with or without school, did you mention any information about rewards or academics that you didn’t state already in the application? I’m thinking of appealing with some legit hardships that I faced in some of my earlier semesters that weren’t addressed.

@cancelout I got rejected from San Jose. I mentioned why my GPA was low and then most of it was about the leadership role I was a part of in one of the clubs at my school. And I did state it in the application, sort of, but now i made it much more clear. They also said not to mention a change in the gpa after fall semester, still did though. uci didn’t say not to mention GPA. You should definitely put what you went through, and get an English professor to revise it, be confident of what you wrote, and ask your professor if its good or complete shit, this is for a school you want to go to, don’t be shy.
