UCI Transfer 2013 Decisions

@ UCBoundVet

Congratulations! I think I’m headed to UCI as well, when you say the comfort level was there, do suggest that all us undecideds head out during a school day? I know you had a good feeling when you went on Saturday, but how much different was it on a weekday?

@ Waterox:That really depends on you and the major. You are required to take certain classes to fulfill your bacherlors and required to complete a minimum number of units to be eligible for graduation. When I finish all of my my classes I will still be short the minimum number of units for graduation. This gives me an opportunity to take a minor.

If you are majoring in something more intensive that requires more classes, lets say bio or something. You will most likely be taking maybe 4 classes a quarter or taking 3(the norm) classes and spending a few extra quarters there.

However, many other factors arise. Lets say you want to take less classes a quarter or take the summer off to do an internship.

Last semester I asked a UCI representative who came to my cc if the TAG really guaranty my admissions and she said “ohhh yeah!! if you have TAG you are all good” I did the tag and still waiting!!! this is ridiculous. Cannot even concentrate on exams now!!!

@ UCdrone As for undecided students YES go visit the school. Do the drive during actual hours that you would be doing it for school. Get a feel for parking etc. Now the feeling of comfort is hard to explain. I have been to LA and UCI campuses numerous times and navigating the campus today I didnt feel lost or out of place. I felt like a student. For all I know no other schools may offer me admission anyways hahaha. However, I walked out of the Veterans Affairs office on UCI campus today and it clicked, I text my wife and said I am an Anteater. Zot Zot

@ UCBoundVet

I plan on taking the bus to avoid parking, but I just saw some of the classes for my major (Criminology, Law and Society) where at 9pm!

I think you’re right about going during the weekday, I’m 36 (and married) and IF I can feel comfortable on the campus, then I suppose I’ll be Zot, Zoting along with you. I do hear the UCI was generous with grants this year, I ended up with a full ride (I live 6 miles from campus).

@ UCdrone I think a big part of selecting the right school is often left out because of the lure from the better known campuses. I will never put down another school, they are all “the best” school for different students and different programs. For me, the aid package sealed the deal. I have a 5 month old son and the location and drive are MUCH easier on my family and I. UCLA was actually a dream school of mine from childhood. However, dreams change and progress with age and time. I say follow your heart and if something does not feel right about a certain campus do not allow “rankings” or other peoples opinions make a decision that doesnt fit who you are.

Damn I just wanna get in even if i get no financial aid, I finished everything i could in the one year i was at community college and i havent even been out of high school for a year. Id rather not waste a year dicking around doing nothing :/

@ rickyseg Like I said, nothing I say will ease your worries. However, I am pretty sure when I was still waiting I read a lot of posts from previous years that stated many students didnt hear from UCI until very late. Hope is not lost. If you have done everything you can do then the ball is no longer in your court. You put together the best package you could, now its their move.

@ UCBoundVet

Thanks! It’s hard picking, especially since I haven’t been to either campus. I agree, if you live in the OC it will be pretty hard to pass up a sweet school like UCI.

@ rickyseg

You are too worried, LOL :)

I’ve been there. Last year, I was a UCI reject; after Academic Renewal, and finishing the appropriate amount of units, I got into UCSD and UCI with a full rides. I don’t remember reading anything last year in terms of UCI Grant generosity. If I had gotten in last year, I would have needed loans. What I’m trying to say is, you will find your way…and when you do, you’ll realize that it was your time.

I’m just mad that a class i took out of personal interest during my busy senior year (japanese lol) and a wr 1 class i took that summer are blemishes on my otherwise perfect transcript when literally every other class is an A. It still drops me .7 in my GPA which is stupid but whatever. I just want to focus on my classes but its hard when this is nagging at me. Im pretty ready for the denial i got it last year so it wont hit me that hard its just waiting that sucks.
@UCDrone, yeah, I’m the kind of guy that Aces every test but still gets super anal about knowing what my score was and worrying about it until i get the results.

Does anyone have information regarding housing? I don’t have a lot of money and I need the cheapest option available. Is it really difficult to get into Arroyo Vista? I don’t live near by :(

Also does anyone know whether the “UC Irvine Grant” is renewed every year?

@ricky at least if you don’t get in (I’m still hoping you do), you won’t be a year behind and you’d still be on track for your degree. We’re supposed to take 4 years usually out of high school to get the bachelors degrees, you know? I was supposed to get mine in 2014 but I had to waste this year since I didn’t get off of the waitlist at UCSD -____- so looks like 2015 for me!

@ xMathx

I’m not sure if this is still available, but all the apartments in Irvine are run/owned by the same companies. Years ago they had a roommate list. You may find a roommate close to UCI and it would be cheaper. Those apartments almost always come with washers and dryers!

@ucboundvet congrats! I sat and stared at my screen for what seemed like forever. I know UCI is right for me but I just can’t help but wait for UCLA. I’ve wanted to go there since I was a kid - dad went there. We have season tix at the rosebowl. Still, I can’t see making that commute and now that I’m 33 it seems like I need to let go of it. Still, I’ll wait until the 26th to SIR.

thanks @UCdrone! (please excuse my question directed to you in the other thread haha, it’s the exact same question). I’ll have to look into it. I’m basically trying to figure out what’s going to be cheaper for me: attending UCLA (if I get in) or attending UCI. If I went to UCLA, I’d have to commute but cover for tuition (e.t.c), but with UCI, I’d basically have my cost of tuition covered and I would only need to worry about housing and the sorts. Trying to figure out which one would be cheaper for me!

@ SoCal79

Nothing wrong with SIR later. We have until June 1st. You know, UCLA has a vanpool, so don’t give up hope.

Yeah I’ve wanted to go to UCLA since I was little too! I applied as a freshmen and a transfer and didn’t get in of course lol. I’m gonna try for a third time for film school so that’s just such a longshot haha. Good luck to you guys! :P

Good luck to you too clamfest. Third times the charm!

^ samesies…GOOD LUCK!
