UCLA Bar - for those questions that take less than 5 posts to answer...

If Im not planning on attending orientation, how would I go about registering for my classes early?

You can’t, or else UCLA won’t make much money from Orientation.

ggrrrr, money was the only issue for me. Cant I make an appointment with a counselor or something?

Where do I go to accept or decline my Regents Scholarship?

I need specific directions and yes I am that bad at navigating the interweb.

ETA: Shouldn’t the title of this thread be “For those questions that take fewer than 5 posts to answer”? Or did my lack of sleep and exercise cause my grammar skills to go down the toilet as well

Why do people double major? Is it really beneficial to double major?

I might want to major psych + bizecon with accounting minor. Is that a bad idea since psych and bizecon are not in the same field?

people double major primarily because they are interested in both majors. also, they might be more marketable in the real world if they have education in 2 fields. even more, they might get kudos from admissions committees in grad school if they do 2 majors and do well. lastly, some people taking a difficult primary major might do a minor or another major to help their gpa.

@ oyster, login to the acceptance thing or whatever and there should be a portal taking you to some regents website. on there, there is a place to accept it. call someone if you cant find it.

Hi Bruins! :)

I got into UCLA Comp Sci and Engg this year and have a few questions (like most others around here!)-

1) Is UCLA Compsci and Engineering really prestigious among the big-name recruiters such as say- Apple, Microsoft, Yahoo!, Google, Sun, HP, Intel etc.? Could I expect to be interning in these companies and ending up working in one of them??

2) Is it possible to do cross-stream research? I’m pretty interested in Environmental Engineering and Alternative Energy research- but majoring in Comp Sci and Engg.

3) What’s the highest, lowest and median starting salary for UCLA Comp Sci and Engg grads? Are such stats made available? (I got similar stats for CMU- the school I’m turning down for UCLA- http://www.studentaffairs.cmu.edu/ca...salary/ECE.pdf</a>)

4) How are grad school admissions to top universities from UCLA like? (places like HYPSM and other Ivies, in general). I’m an international and would I have a better chance of getting into a top US grad-school if I attend UCLA as opposed to me attending a local university in Singapore (NUS or Nanyang Tech).

5) I’m “thinking” of minoring or double-majoring- if I don’t get slaughtered by Comp Sci and Engineering alone i.e. in Economics or Business Economics- is this a possibility- and if yes, do top finance companies recruit at UCLA?

Thanks in advance for your help, guys! :)

1) You need top notch GPA and some experience to get recruited by those companies. Although UCLA is a top notch school, its engineering program isn’t as highly reguarding as UC Berkeleys. [Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs - Best Colleges - Education - US News and World Report](http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/college/spec-doct-engineering)

2) Yes

3) I dont have specifics for Engineering grads, but they would be in the upper payscale. This is the general salary potential… [Top State Universities By Salary Potential](Best Public Colleges | Payscale)

4) Grad schools want experience, research, GPA, and letters of rec. Yes it’s better to attend a school in the US over an international one if you plan on going to a US grad school, but I have no idea how they grade in Singapore or where it is ranked world wide.

5) Yeah its possible to double major but it would def be killer for you. I’d say you “ease” into biz econ and see if you even like it. Engineering alone would consume a lot of your time.

Anyone know a way to get my ucla webmail forwarded to my hotmail account?
