i want to take german1 in the first quater of my freshman year. do i need to take the german placement exam at orientation? i don’t understand what that placement exam is for! thanks this is urgent

Likely. Go to class, do all the homework as if you were enrolled. Go to class because the professor will likely give out PTEs no later by the end of the week, if not after the first lecture.

Many students have taken the two courses together. There is not much overlap between the two topics, except eigenvalues, eigenvectors, and basic linear algebra concepts taught early in 33A. These 3 courses is ideal for the first quarter if you want a light load.

How bad would it be to have two finals on the same day? 11:30 AM - 6 PM

Depends on the difficulty of the finals and if the more difficult one is first or second. If the easy one is first it’s not that bad, as you won’t really burn out going to the second one. Just think of it as taking 2 APs back to back. Also, I found that you never really need all 3 hours that they give you, but that might just have been the classes I took.

anyone know where SMB is? i can’t even find it on the map and i’ve never even heard of it lol

is it shcoenberg or what?

also, 3 finals in 1 day, how does that sound? haha

Both are lower division math classes.

“imrightuarewrong” SMB is schoenberg - dno the spelling. it is in front of Murphy Hall, the music building.

SMB should be Schoenburg Music Building.

You’ll probably be fine taking 2 lower div maths on the same day, just be sure to bring extra batteries if you get to use a calculator!

if I buy my books early, is it possible for the instructor to all of a sudden change what books are required and therefore leaving me with useless books? This is for a WAC course.

Quick question, can I just mail the BruinDirect authorization form without the deposit slip/voided check?

I think I know the answer already but I need to check first. Thanks.

Would it be a bad idea taking French my first quarter, even though I’ve already fulfilled the language requirement? I’ve been taking it for four years and would like to continue. At the same time, though, I’ve been told that taking unrequired classes is a waste of time.

Is Econ 1 ever offered at a time other than 8 AM?

themoonisdown: Take French! besides the language there are cool classes about French culture and film, etc. Who ever said taking unrequired classes was a waste of time. Taking all your GE’s and major requirements will still leave you with plenty of units you need to complete to grad. Plus this is a big part of college. Take classes in things that are interesteing to you, in areas you have always wanted to explore…for no other reason than you can! UCLA has thousands of interesting classes. When I see people’s schedules filled with only math or science I just shake my head and think how sad. Take a variety of classes to broaden your world and make yourself a more interesting person. I the long run you will enjoy and appreciate life more.

Do merchants on campus take other forms of payment (cash, other debit/credit cards) or is the Bruincard the sole exclusive plastic form of payment?

They’ll definitely take cash and I’m pretty sure most major credit cards and debit cards, but not sure about paying for your pizza with a $4 check…

merchant? are we in arabia or something?

Does UCLA drug test for on-campus jobs?

Is GE Cluster History of Modern Thought so popular that it’s already closed?

Link: [Schedule of Classes: Class Listing](http://www.registrar.ucla.edu/schedule/detselect.aspx?termsel=09F&subareasel=GE+CLST&idxcrs=0021A+++)

No, it does not drug-test as far as I’m concerned (I’ve had three different jobs here at UCLA associated with ASUCLA, the Office of Residential Life, etc.) I haven’t heard of these circumstances. UCLA is one of the largest employers in CA so it would be way too general to say that all departments do NOT do drug testing.

^

omg em you’re back!!!
