***UCLA CLASS OF 2019 APPLICANT DISCUSSION THREAD***

@adidinescu‌ I feel your pain… these next few weeks (including Berkeley and privates) are going to be the death of me. How do you think your EC’s and essays were?

@kookiekwazy‌ Yeah, that’s what I’ve heard. That’s one of the reasons I am worried. I can do nothing but wait.

I do feel like I had strong ECs though, but not manyy “Engineering” ones. I am an Eagle Scout and had leadership positions in Boy Scouts, Captain of my Swim and Water Polo teams, and I ranked pretty high in CIF for swim which involved a lot of hours of work to get there. I’m still hoping, but Davis really threw me off my game. :confused:

@yellowmamba45‌ I mentioned to @kookiekwazy‌ my ECs. I did Boy Scouts, got Eagle, was Senior Patrol Leader, Junior Assistant Scoutmaster, and I was also captain on both sports I did (did them both all 4 years). I picked up swimming in high school and I joined a club which led me to placing in CIF which is rare enough at my high school. I also was the Boys State Delegate and was awarded the Rotary Youth Leadership Award. I didn’t really have a whole lot of engineering extracurricular activities.

At this point I’m a little disappointed I didn’t choose Undeclared, but that feels like cheating. :confused:

I applied Undeclared Humanities - do you think this will hurt my chances of getting in because they can’t gauge exactly where I’ll end up?

@adidinescu‌ those sound like some strong EC’s! They show tons of commitment! Mine weren’t engineering at all if that makes you worry less. Well hang in there best you can… I’m hearing that open house invitations are still being rolled out so yeah, have hope.

But as to choosing undeclared, it would have been much harder to transfer into the school of engineering, and if you did undeclared engineering that is the most competitive out of all the engineer choices. You were honest and gave it your all so that’s what counts. Good luck my friend I really hope we both get in.

@adidinescu

My ECs had nothing to do with engineering so I hope that makes you feel better.

@yellowmamba45‌ @kookiekwazy‌ Thank you, and I certainly hope UCLA thinks so as well! I appreciate the support :smile:

just a quick question - i just realized that i had left my second spoken language blank (i should’ve put English). it’s kind of obvious that i speak English as my second language (i transferred to an international school in the middle of high school), but i sent uc schools an update. would leaving such blank have an impact on my admission? (or even updating new info at this point?)

@Jennc9‌ Same here! :slight_smile: did you receive an email recently saying your application is still being considered? I don’t want to get my hopes up, but I hope it’s a good sign!
Best of luck!

If I haven’t received an Open house email yet does that mean I won’t get it for sure?

@AC15786‌ no, there’s still 60% admits who wouldn’t receive the letter. Don’t panic.

@Digitallyshrewd‌ no I meant the email. All applicants receive the email at once? Or over a day or two.

@AC15786 as far as I know, the emails are still being rolled out so who knows!

@Digitallyshrewd‌ Oh okay…Have you gotten one yet?

@AC15786 nah, I’m just praying I get one, or at least get admitted in the end! UCLA and Berkeley are my top choices!

@Digitallyshrewd‌ yea same here berkeley and LA… Btw what are your grades etc

@AC15786 UW GPA: 3.93
Doing the IB Diploma as of now! 30 ACT! Loads of ECs, leadership roles and community service! Unique essay!

What about you, mate?

@Digitallyshrewd‌ Doing Cambridge A-Levels right now. 2230 SAT 1. UW GPA 3.96 Weighted GPA 4.24. Gave Cambridge O-Levels. Loads of community Service and Decent Sports and EC’s

@AC15786 as of now, all we can do is hope for the best!
