Hi everyone! Congrats on acceptances! Does anybody know if there is an official Facebook page for admitted UCLA students?
UCLA only accepted 5K+ this year instead of 10K applicants like any other years (to make acceptance rate 6% which looks like much better than ivies? ). If you are on the waitlist , it means if you are top 16% (10% on the waitlist), you would have been accepted last year (23%) . Can someone confirm it?
@jjSr2k nope, that is not right. UCLA has spots for 5K+ freshman, but since they have a 35% yield rate, that means that, if X= the number of admits, then .35X=5000, or X=Roughly 14,300. They have to account for all their admits that choose a different school. So the acceptance rate this year is around 14,300/92,000 = 15.5% acceptance rate.
Any word on when acceptance packets are going to come in?
But UCLA only accept 5K+ so far, not 14,300. Isn’t it?
@jjSr2k no, they say that there are only 5k+ spots in the freshman class. That does not mean they accept 5k+ people. They have to accept more people than spots that they have because not everyone that is accepted to UCLA will attend (hence the 35% yield rate-- 35% of people that are accepted to UCLA will actually attend UCLA)
@appleface47 On UCLA website, it says " We had to deny more than 77,000" out of 92,000 applicants. I wonder it means 15000 (16%) are accepted and on the waitlist. They accepted 18.5% last year. Did i miss something? Thanks.

@jjSr2k I don’t know the numbers about waitlisted students, but I’m pretty sure that admitted number wouldn’t include waitlisted students. Waitlisted students are not considered admitted, they are considered waitlisted.
@appleface47 I agreed. But it looks like the acceptance rate last year is higher than accepted and waitlist combined this year.
@jjSr2k idk what you’re asking at this point. Maybe this will answer your question.

@jjSr2k @appleface47
So, 15000 were accepted and waitlisted. According to ms sun, 3700 students were offered spots on the waitlist last year. However, due to funding difficulties, that number supposedly increased dramatically this year, so it may be safe to bump that up to 5000. So, 10000 acceptances/92000 apps means acceptance rate is about 11%. Not entirely sure about the numbers, but if they are correct, that is insane.
But in the decision letter they said they accepted (not including waitlists) 5700ish freshmen. So the acceptance rate so far is still 6% . After thet accept more ppl off the wailist the acceptance rate will go higher (11%-15%?)

[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Simply not competitive enough especially with this being the largest applicant pool, I think in the world?! Waitlisted at UC Berkeley (as opposed to rejected) probably because I didn’t apply for an engineering major unlike how I did for SD, Davis, and Irvine, and I also got waitlisted at those three (I know right, 4 UC waitlists?!). Also waitlisted at UChicago. Rejected from USC and Northwestern as well. Accepted to UCSB and glad I have that to fall back on.[/li][/ul]General Comments: Good Luck!!! (Yes I did receive my decision on March 20th like most people but just didn’t post about it until now.)
Rejected. Waitlisted at Cal.

Over 150+ volunteer hours, worked at the family restaurant since I was 8 y/o, ton of extracurriculars–welp, I guess my essays were pretty weak and the TFT was pretty competitive this year. Ah well.
Does anyone know if the Alumni Scholarship decisions have came out yet?
@goscryu no they only have spots for around 5,700. they actually accepted around 15,000+ probably. they take into account that not everyone will decide to attend. I think the acceptance rate was around 16%
I feel like I rushed the essays a little bit but I think it was the lack of any non-academic/kinda-volunteer ECs that did me in.
However as a disclaimer I did make UCB L/S Bio.
my packet came today!!!
@vmendoza15 Me too! It’s so beautiful and bright!
Anyone else receive a phone call tonight?
