UCLA Class of 2020 Applicant Discussion

lol I just got a call today from UCLA. It was a current senior who called me and asked me three survey questions. How likely I am going to attend, what is UCLA ranked in my list of colleges I applied to, am I going to Bruin day. He also asked if I had any questions I wanted to ask lol that was nice

I got admitted to UCLA, but I will be turning it down to attend UW instead, because $0 in financial aid stings. Hope someone on the waitlist will benefit!

How can you get all A’s at UCLA?

So, can anyone explain to me what Bruin’s Day even is? I have midterms around that time, and given my plane flight’s distance away, I’m trying to figure out how hard I should beg for a different test date.
How important is it (basically, how much will I miss?)

@dreambig98 So you received an admit package from UCSD already? I t may be that it takes longer coz I’m international? Have you got anything from Davis or Irvine? Do all unis send an admit pack regardless of whether you accept or not??

@dreambig98 are u in the san diego area or nearby?

I am admitted by UCLA, and I was wondering if someone can give me some advice on this issue:

Our high school uses the following grading system: A (93.5%), A- (89.5%-93.5%), B+ (86.5%-89.5%), B(83.5%-86.5), B-(79.5%-83.5%).

Both A and A- carries a grading point of 4.0, and B+, B, and B- carry the same point of 3.0. This is different from the grading system at UCLA, where “A” = 4.0, A- carries a grading point of 3.7, and B+ has a value of 3.3 etc.

To reflect our high school’s grading system, and more importantly, to make sure that the UCLA admissions officers get the same GPA as the one on my transcript, in my application I used “A” for both “A” and “A-”, and “B” for “B+”, “B”, and “B-”. My lowest grades are two “B+”, and I also had several “A-” (and the rest are all "A"s).

Do you think this will complicate my admission when they see my official transcript?

Thanks for your thoughts on this!

Anyone have any advice for a middle class OOS person like myself to be able to afford this wonderful (but hella expensive) school?

@midwestatheart UCLA has offered private scholarships arranged through non CA state/UC system funding for low EFC OOS students. You should contact the FA office - they will at least have some suggestions and maybe some of the OOS FA money will get freed up and you can ask to be considered. From what i understand the OOS FA they are offering is nice but definitely does not cover the real need so many OOS high need kids will not be able to use the funds anyways.

@kikiliu the UC system ignores the +/- anyways. it wont make any difference.

Thanks Khanam for the hint!

I had a question regarding course changes. I completed a Supplemental information application during the review if my application. On the application I said I was taking a college course after school. After being enrolled in the class for 3 weeks I realized I had some scheduling conflicts considering I either have a club meeting or math tutor session, or I have to babysit the days I have the class. If I were to report the withdrawal/change to UCLA would that be reason enough to revoke my admission? I also need the tutoring to keep my GPA up to meet the school’s academic policy, so i would only be able to come to 1/4 of the next coming classes. I really want to go to attend UCLA and I hope this does little damage, is any, to my admission. The professor of the course told me nothing should happen but I’m still very nervous to let the school know. :-SS

nothing should happen - you should tell them that you are having to do this due to family & babysitting reasons. They will make a note and that will be it. maybe try taking the college course during the summer prior to enrolling - that way you will just be postponing the college course and leaving nothing to chance?

Thank you so much for settling my nerves, even if just for a little bit lol. Just sent a schedule change report explaining my reasoning for leaving the class. I will definitely try to see how I would go about taking that course as soon as possible just to make things a go more smoothly. Thanks again!

Are admittance packets coming today?

D’s just came in today’s mail in the Los Angeles area.

I got accepted into UCLA but I got 3 Cs senior year so far (senioritis hit me so hard) since we are on trimesters. Should I email the school about my Cs now or later just in case I get more Cs?

@chantal225 I live in the San Gabriel Valley area, and I just received my packet today. Out of all of the schools that I’ve been accepted to, UCLA’s packet is by far the nicest (except USC, but then again, USC is private).

Got my admit packet today!

@chantal225 they started arriving today
