What do you guys think my chances are?

Does any one think not filling out the alumni scholarship will have a negative effect on my admissions decision? My scores are relatively low compared to those who receive the scholarship, so I don’t find completing the application very efficient. It makes more sense for me to fill out other scholarships. However, if it has any correlation to being accepted I won’t hesitate to complete it. Any thoughts?

@sadlyoptimistic The alumni application does not involve any scores or even GPA. I just checked right now.

I recently received the alumni scholarship invitation from UCLA, but it was based on my major. It also sounded like anyone who applied for the School of Arts and Architecture got an email. So I was wondering if anyone who applied for the School of Arts and Architecture received the alumni scholarship invitation as well.

I received the email as well and I also applied to the School of Arts and Architecture. I’m not sure whether or not it goes to a select number of people or to a whole major or to everyone.

@livvrose98 Really? It might be just to the entire major because my ACT is nowhere near for UCLA to offer some scholarships. I was so excited, then I realized it sounded like it was for everyone who applied for the School of Arts and Architecture because it said “As an applicant of the School of Arts and Architecture, we want you to apply…” in the email. It was good to hear from you, though!

@livvrose98 @deepblueocean I applied to DMA in the School of Arts and Architecture and I received this email notification, too. Previous posts on this thread indicate that this was just a reminder email for students to apply for the alumni scholarship, with the original invitation sent out in January. From what I know, the School of Arts and Architecture has its own distinct scholarship program which includes the “Alumni Arts Scholarship” and the “UC Regents Arts Scholarship”.

This is what it says on the school's official site:

The UCLA Alumni Arts Scholarship is available to undergraduate freshmen and transfer California residents applying to the following majors within the School of the Arts and Architecture:

Architectural Studies
Art
Design Media Arts
Ethnomusicology
Music
World Arts and Cultures/Dance
After the applicant submits the UC application and supplemental screening requirements to the respective department, faculty will make recommendations for this scholarship based on academic achievement and artistic talent.

APPLICATION IS BY INVITATION ONLY. Faculty committees make departmental recommendations and the nominees are contacted by the Office of Enrollment Management with an invitation to apply. A UCLA Alumni reading committee evaluates each application for leadership, personal achievements, extracurricular activities, and academics.

@QNBLUE Thank you for finding a detailed information that I did not know at all! So if we are applying to the scholarship, do we still apply to the freshman alumni scholarship? Or is there another place for application? And also, do you think this is a good sign? And by the way, I also applied for DMA!

@deepblueocean the alumni scholarship is open to all freshmen, but the alumni ARTS scholarship is by invitation ONLY.

So, you can totally apply to the Alumni Scholarship but for the Alumni ARTS Scholarship, it depends on whether or not you are invited by the department to apply.

I’m not sure if the School of Arts and Architecture sent out its invitations yet, but if you receive it, it is definitely a good sign (but as always, not a guarantee for admission) because the applicants for this scholarship are recommended by the department faculty.

post #20 & #22 on this thread indicate that the invitation may mean something:

@deepblueocean which major did you apply to in the School of Arts & Architecture?

@QNBLUE I applied for DMA, same as you. I am glad to meet someone who applied for the same major as I did.

And for @QNBLUE @10s4life,
What I received was Alumni Scholarship invitation, but I was confused because the wordings on my invitation was a little tiny bit different than what other people got on their emails (compared with post #304). Now I am more clear about the difference between the Alumni Art Scholarship and Alumni Scholarship.

when do we think UCLA will release decisions ?

btw I also got a supplemental info and I have a 4.0 UW 5.4 W
perfect SAT score (one sitting)
Varsity football (all 4 years), CIF champ 2014

this cant be good

@ronburg11 did you gets a regents invite?

@bruin2020 Yes I got a regents and alumni scholarship invite but I also got the supplemental info which is supposed to be for borderline students as I understand it. Im very perplexed dont know what to make of all this.

@ronburg11 decisions will be released March 20 5PM Pacific time

A Sunday this year? Interesting.

@ronburg11 By looking at your GPA and extracurricular information, you are an excellent student. However, colleges don’t always pick students who have the highest GPA, the most challenging activities, or the most athletic students. I believe each college also looks at how each student matches to its school. I see why you are so perplexed and stressed out about this situation. And this is my only guess, so just listen to it and forget about it.

You are a very good student, according to your status. However, maybe UCLA wants to know if you are actually the right student who can fit into its school system. I know many people said that getting the aupplemental questionnaire is for people who are on borderlines. Just forget about that. UCLA may just want to make sure if you really do fit into its system.

Regardless what UCLA had done to you (giving you the supplemental questionnaire), you have done a wonderful job throughout your high school years. Congratulations! Believe in yourself because you had done so much to express who you are.
