UCLA Class of 2020 Applicant Discussion

It was a march 20 for 2015.

@ronburg11, maybe they want extra info because they want to make sure you will attend if picked. You seem to be overqualified for UCLA.

@10s4life Thank you for the insight. I did not know they would give financial aid just to pay for living expenses. I thought it was just for tuition, books, and fees.

I’m an out of state student and got a supplemental questionnaire but no regents or alumni scholarship emails, is the fact that I got no scholarship info a bad sign?

I can’t login itno the admission portal to check my application status. It says record not found.

I was invited to apply for the Bunche alumni scholarship. Anybody else in the same boat?

@lyannastark I got that invite too. I think they have a specific scholarship for “historically underrepresented backgrounds.”

Are all minorities sent it? Or is it for people who have demonstrated cultural engagement? @2Roadsdiverged

@lyannastark I think it’s just the ones who have demonstrated cultural engagement. I’m a minority and haven;t gotten that invitation.

@2Roadsdiverged @lyannastark I have no idea what is meant by “cultural engagement,” but I have never done any sort of activity that would indicate I had done anything like that. I just think that they sent out different versions of the Alumni Scholarship Invitation, depending on any number of factors. I don’t know that the Bunche scholarship invite is anything more than a “well you qualify for this email, send them the right version that fits their status.” I can imagine that if someone was, say, a Legacy, then their email would have different wording to reflect that particular scholarship. Hopefully that kinda makes sense. I am no expert though. All I know is that I had yet to encounter anyone else with my same Alumni Invite description until now. I have no idea what it means.

Hi, can anyone confirm the date UCLA decisions will be released? Is it March 20, 2016? Thanks

@sftrader
If they follow the pattern of 2015, it will be on Friday, March 18th this year.

Do you think that all the decisions have been made by now?

@bruin2020 honestly, they might have made some decisions for some people considering we’re a couple of weeks away, at this point, I don’t believe all decisions are ready, just a couple of them. I mean, with the number of applicants, they’ll need to start early

My son was accepted to UCLA in 2013 and we have followed the process each year since then.

UCLA always changes the status of all submitted applications on Friday @ 5:00 pm of the week that UC Santa Barbara begins their notification process. UCSB begins freshman notification this year the week of March 20th…so expect the status of your application to change on Friday, March 25th.

The UCLA admissions web site is usually bombarded with everyone trying to view the status of their application on that day and it can take awhile to log in to review the status of your app. All undergraduate applications decisions have been made and are posted on that day.

Once you’re able to log in your UC application ID number…it will pop open to show the blue & gold “Congratulations” banner if you have been accepted. It’s pretty damn cool!

For the second alumni scholarship essay, are we to include the quote we used?

Yes

On Mrs. Sun’s website, she heard from a reliable source that UCLA will be releasing decisions on Friday, March 18 but it has not been officially confirmed by UCLA

My son received an email from Berkeley on Feb 13 stating freshman decision will be released on March 24. Typically, Berkeley is the last of the UC to announce, so any time prior to March 24 would be a good guess as to when UCLA will announce.

Also, not sure if this has been discussed, but UC will accept 5,000 more students this year combined. I recall reading somewhere UCB and UCLA will admit 750 additional students each, 500 freshman and 250 transfer. This is a great year to be applying to UCs as a result since your chance will be greater than previous years without the bump. Good luck all.

I had this in another forum, but I thought I would ask it here. Has anyone else been receiving a ton of reminder emails to apply to the UCLA Alumni Scholarship? I think they even had an email in there where they corrected a phone number haha
