So I as a theater major shouldn’t necessarily take getting an alumni scholarship invite as a good sign? Theater takes about 30 kids aswell. So it was sent to all 30 kids? @glasshours @itssophie
@hopefullgal - I’m not well-versed in any of this, sorry
What about engineering?
Did people receive anything? Not the acceptance but extra info? I know berkeley asked for teacher recs, but did ucla do anything? I got nothing and feel that my chances are not so good anymoree.
My uw gpa sucks and compared to lots of people here, im just below average.
did you get the alumni scholarship email @ikim16
Does anyone know that stats for the people who usually are admitted to be pre- business-economics or economics? I know it’s a largely applied to program, but it seemed like the acceptances from last year’s thread were all over the spectrum…
@cahopeful2020 They have the stats of 2015’s admitted transfer students on their website https://www.admission.ucla.edu/prospect/adm_tr/Tr_Prof15_mjr.htm#LS
@10s4life I get what you are saying, and do hope it is correct for the sake of a few of my friends. But, judging by their stats, I don’t know how they could be in the top 4% (one of them got it and has a 32, 4.4 UC)
@jackisawesome ever heard of the word holistic m8?
I received the Alumni Scholarship email and the newbruins one (which I don’t think has any significance at all), but my stats are : 3.9 UW, 5.49 Weighted, 34 ACT
@catzxo I received the Alumni email and applied. I have a 29 ACT, 4.17 UC GPA, Strong EC’s and essays, and applied as a Spanish major (UC essay was about Spanish and ECs relating to Spanish). If it’s true that major matters, do I have a decent chance?
@catzxo I applied undeared for arts and science-which typically is the easier route for applying I think.
@madsurf They don’t take your major into account if you applying for a major within the College of Letters & Science.
@McKilla99 Obviously? But there is a certain extent to which holistic review goes, and numerical stats generally make up a greater percentage of the holistic review. Just expressing my opinion. Additionally, while that one person did say that it went out to 4% of all applicants, how do we know that this person is actually citing correct material and/or can be trusted? Upon investigation of the message that the 4% statistic emerged from, I found no proper citation of any sources whatsoever, just references to nameless staff members in the alumni department.
I agree with @jackisawesome When I read posts on here, I tend to do separate research and fact check what people on here say. We don’t know exactly who is behind the screen, they could be trolls or maybe even admissions officers, who knows. But really, some of these posts without evidence backing up should be just taken as reference and don’t take them like its the established truth.
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/15465717/#Comment_15465717 - this is the source of all the conjectures I guess.
On a separate note, I am surprised no one has posted something like “results are out” yet to create chaos. would’ve happened a few times by now in my generation…
@vi0linmonster @jackisawesome @10s4life I don’t necessarily have a source, but I still think that the alumni email could be a reasonable indicator of admission. Only because some committee out there felt confident enough that you’d get in that they wanted to invite you directly. Someone has confidence in you. But who knows what it actually means? The reality is that everyone is looking for a sign because we are all so focused on getting in. Whether it actually means anything doesn’t really matter, does it? Everyone’s chance is still 50/50. You either get in or you don’t. So I say believe what you want. It won’t change your decision anyway. I just don’t think it’s right to make someone else feel like their hope is worthless when it very well may mean something. To me, reason checks out more that it does mean something than it doesn’t. Holistic review is a big deal to the school. Especially since there are 119,000 applicants. That means they HAVE to consider those with lower stats. There’s just too many people to sift through if they wanna be truly holistic, even with numbers preference.
are decisions coming out on the 26th year? Or have they not yet confirmed?
@itssophie Please browse through the threads before asking a heavily repeated question. The 18th is everyone’s guess.
This thread needs to be bifurcated into a regular discussion and a “are the results out now?” thread.
@IBGuy101 Sorry i did check this thread and I did see someone mention the 18th, but I didn’t see any confirmation especially since that’s a week earlier than usual, so I was sure what conclusion people had come to.
