Bruin Day will be on Saturday, April 13, 2024. Cal Day will be the same day.
My D applied in the Education and Social Transformation undergraduate major program in school of Education.
Does that School of Education only look at the applications that put that major down? Do you have an stats for this major?
That is a fairly New major so no stats specific to the College.
The new B.A. in Education and Social Transformation prepares students to analyze current issues in education through a social justice lens and to emerge as effective advocates for positive change.
Students entering UCLA as first-year students as well as first-term transfer students who indicate Education and Social Transformation as their first-choice major on the general UC Application will be admitted as pre-majors. After completion of the lower-division prerequisites and 45 lower-division units they may apply for declaring the major.
2023 Freshman profile:
When UCLA reads the 145,910 applications, does each school (ie. College (L&S), Engineering, School of Ed, etc) only look at/choose from the applications that have their major chosen? For example, my D’s application in this new Education BA is only being compared to the other students who chose a major in the school of Ed&IS? and engineering students are only being read and compared against other engineering majors?
I just got the scholarships email, but I know there has been some debate on whether that is a sign of admission or if it is actually a bad sign, and they did say on the email it does not mean anything, but I was wondering if there are any new opinions on it?
I absolutely think this is just a mass email that doesn’t indicate anything yet about admission chances.
@wgolds is right. It is just a mass email and nothing to do with your chances for admission.
I have a question about 9% state guarantee.
As this is what is showing when you log in to see how they review your application. My son is sure he is also 9% ELC. Which information should/will prevail in this situation on the screen how they view your app?
ELC either Statewide or Local will show up on the screen when logging into the UC application. If both, only one ELC will show up but it is one area of criteria. considered during the application review.
ELC only guarantees that an applicant will be admitted to a UC campus if they are not accepted into their choice campuses. ELC referred students to UC Merced and some also to UC Riverside last year
Three years ago when my D21 applied, UCLA sent two emails about the Alumni scholarships. The first one was targeted, with applicants’ names. Receiving of that email absolutely correlated with admission. Then after a few days, a mass generic email was sent to all applicants. No personal information in the second email. But I heard since that year, UCLA stopped sending targeted scholarship emails. So nowadays, I’d say this email means nothing.
Only local/school ELC rank of 9% is considered as one of 13 points review, state is not. Both guarantee admission upon availability. I was wondering if someone has both, wich one would shop up on the review log in as default?
All the literature I have seen through studies and counselor resources, state they really do not distinguish between Local and Statewide during the admissions process. Since the UC’s use a comprehensive review, it is just one area of criteria be considered.
Thus the current email says not to correlate it with any idea of admission process:) even though it was sent personally.
We also received EAOP invitation for scholarship overview presentation.
Correct. The only email that was predicative of admission was the invite for the Regent’s scholarship. Last year however, no invites went out and Regents was awarded automatically.
I believe there is also a sort of “waitlist” or borderline email sent in February asking for additional essay……right?
Some UC’s including UCLA may send out an augmented/supplemental review request to a small number of applicants. It is not necessarily borderline students but just for applicants where they need more information to help in making their admission decison.
The criteria for referring an applicant for Supplemental Review include the following:
- Evidence of focus on an area of special talent which may have limited a student’s time to participate in a broader range of activities.
- Evidence of character traits that imply a strong likelihood of making a significant contribution to campus life.
- Evidence of significant academic achievement or the potential for academic achievement at the University in spite of extraordinary or compound disadvantage or learning difference, or physical disability or other unusual circumstances.
- Evidence of significant improvement in the academic record accompanied by one or both of the following: (1) reasons for the initial poor performance; and (2) sustained and in-depth participation in educational outreach programs, which demonstrate the applicant’s commitment to succeed academically within a challenging environment.
- Evidence of relative lack of access to, counseling about, or support to take college preparatory, honors, Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) classes or required college entrance examinations.
What are the criteria for the Regent’s Scholarship? Thanks!
Regent scholars are usually the top 1-2% of applicants and are considered upon application submission.
Regents Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of demonstrated academic excellence, leadership, and exceptional promise.
- All Regents Scholars are considered for a $2,000 honorarium regardless of financial need.
- If a Regents Scholar has additional financial needs beyond the $2,000, the scholar will be awarded a university scholarship and/or grants to cover the remainder of the scholar’s need. Additional aid not guaranteed for OOS and International students.
- Entering Freshmen get a four-year scholarship (12 straight academic quarters). Scholarship is NOT awarded in the summer.
Thank you. Top 1-2% based on holistic review, or GPA or capped weighted GPA?
Holistic review is used.
