For a few years, Regents candidates at UCLA were asked to submit additional essays in February. They are the top of the applicant pool and in no way considered a “waitlist” or “borderline” applicant. I believe UCLA stopped asking Regents candidates for additional essays last year. Berkeley, however, usually admits a very small percentage of top students in January.
So they get notified in February of their acceptance? Does UCLA do that also?
Sorry for the typo, it is early. Berkeley usually admits Regents candidates in late January/early Feb. In the past, candidates went through an interview process to determine if they would receive the scholarship.
UCLA does not admit students early.
My son got a link to set up his UCLA portal but didn’t see any sort of login credentials? Can anyone provide info or guidance
It says to use the id he received for the UC application
Did anyone also NOT receive the ucla scholarship email?
I did not receive the email that seemed to be sent to everyone last week. All my friends got it, and we have similar stats, even ecs. Some have higher or lower income than my family so it’s not financial need based. This is a new, mass email sent from ucla (not from alumni association like past years) so i can’t help but wonder if i’m already on their rejected list to be excluded
Got this email today:
Dear Scholarship Applicant:
We recognize that you have been working on your UCLA Scholarships application and are so excited that you are considering becoming a part of our family. The Alumni Scholarships program, supported by the UCLA Alumni Association, is a community of like-minded students with a focus on community, leadership development, and service.
The Outreach Committee of the Alumni Scholars Club (ASC) has put together a Virtual Prospective Scholars Day for any students interested in applying for the Alumni Scholarships. If you have already registered we look forward to seeing you this weekend. By attending this event, you will be able to meet current ASC students who will introduce the benefits of receiving the scholarship beyond the monetary award. You will also have the opportunity to hear from a student panel and ask our current scholars any questions you may have about the scholarship and ASC. If you are still working on your application I encourage you to log into the system and finish before the deadline of March 2, 2024. http://prospective-ugstudents-ucla.academicworks.com/
There will be 3 sessions for the event with a limited capacity for each. Registration for these sessions will be on a first come first serve basis. Should you register after we have reached capacity, we will automatically place you on a waiting list. Should space become available we will update you at the e-mail address you provided. You may register for ONE of the following sessions :
Session 1: 1/18/24 (Thursday), 5PM - 6PM PST
Session 2: 1/20/24 (Saturday), 5PM - 6PM PST
Session 3: 1/21/24 (Sunday), 5PM - 6PM PST
Please use this link to register for ONE session: 2024 ASC Prospective Scholar Day
The Zoom link will be emailed to you on by noon, the day of your event.
If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to our ASC Outreach Director at caitlyneloo@gmail.com
Thank you and we look forward to seeing you at our Prospective Scholars Day! Go Bruins!
*Please Note, your invitation to prospective scholar day has NO correlation to an offer of admission. This invitation is only based on your interest in UCLA Scholarships.
Sincerely,
Did you check your Spam/Junk folder? The email is not an indication of your decision. With mass emails, some applicants just do not get it for no apparent reason.
I’ve been checking my spam folder diligently and there’s nothing. Someone on reddit also mentioned they didn’t get it, so looks like it’s targeted afterall.
I don’t think it’s targeted.
Now I finally understand why in years past, the Alum scholarship essays I read are so poorly written. Now I get it. People write them before knowing if they would get in so there is probably not a lot of time spent making sure they write in complete coherent sentences.
You can still apply to the scholarships even if you did not get the email so it is a non-issue.
I wouldn’t think it’s targeted. My son did get it, in his junk mail, but he has missed so many emails from colleges. Some of them go to both of us and I can see he should have received them - the email address was correct, but the emails were no where.
So did people get emails for scholarships applications at UcLA already? My son didn’t get anything. He was admitted to MIT and another top school on East coast with honors but wants UCLA. If they are targeting some people then it likely is good news for those who got the email.
If you did get the email have you already started the application for scholarships? I’m trying to see if those that got the email had already started an application vs being a “ likely “ admit.
My daughter got it today, but didn’t realize it until I read this thread and asked her about it.
I think everyone gets it. It maybe lost in spam. I don’t think it is any indicator whatsoever
The scholarship email clearly states that it is not an indication of an applicants chance for admission. Please do not read anything into any Mass emails that UCLA sends out.
Thank you everyone for your responses. Actually, not everyone gets the email. I just found out two acquaintances of mine also didn’t get it, and yes they checked their spam. I’ve been checking my spam and even my trash (in case my chubby finger accidentally deleted it) non stop but i just never got one. I’ve had no problem receiving all the portal and other emails from ucs.
I agree that we shouldn’t read much into it. It’s probably random or based on some kind of filters.
I’m not sure I understand the logic of having these scholarship applications due several weeks before acceptance notifications even go out. Does UCLA have some early notifications go out like UCB does? Knowing that UCLA has around a 9% acceptance rate and knowing there will be thousands and thousands of highly qualified kids turned away who would actually take the time to submit for these? My kid got the email and I just thought it was super odd.
That’s why many of these applications read like a third grader scribbling on the back of cocktail napkin with a crayon. Now I know why.
