Both!
Same with the obscure or “not so popular,” majors. The university will want to admit students interested in these majors so that they don’t end up being cut.
Assuming that they will announce on Mar 21, what time will they release the decisions? In other words, how many more hours?
I believe after 5 pm pacific time.
Some of the higher demand majors may be designated as a Pre-major but not all L&S majors are Pre-majors. The students need to go through the major declaration process by taking the required courses for any major regardless if they have a Pre-major status.

If it happens, it happens; and we will be grateful…
If it doesn’t, my OOS wallet will be grateful.
Does UCLA just do admit, deny, waitlist or do they do spring admit too? Never knew this spring admit thing existed until the past few months. My how college admissions has changed…
UCLA does not offer Spring admission for Freshman or Transfers only Fall admission.
Is UCLA’s computer science and engineering acceptance rate inflated, because it is so easy to apply with the UC system? (I am trying to cope as an OOS applying CSE)
The Computer Science and Engineering admit rate for 2024 Freshman was 4.1%. I would not call that inflated but highly competitive.
Oh sorry, I meant I was hoping the major was slightly less competitive than the acceptance rate indicates due to the ease of applying. I am definitely just coping though.
I would not call filling out the UC application easy either since EC’s go into more detail than the Common application and the PIQ prompts do not always align with the essays required by other schools. Not sure what you mean by easy to apply? The major is not less competitive when you look at the overall Engineering admit rates.
Essentially, someone who applied to UC system for the easier to get in UC schools like UCSC, but since they already applied to UC, they will also apply UCLA and UC Berkely hoping to get a miracle.
Yes, the UC application lets you apply to 9 UC’s but that has nothing to do with CSE being a less competitive major or an easier admit and it actually keeps your PIQ’s more general since you cannot target one particular campus.
I am not saying it makes CSE less competitive. I am just hoping that the acceptance rates are so low partly because of the aforementioned UC system encouraging less competitive applicants to shoot their shot at UCLA and UC Berkely. Basically, I am hoping the competitiveness for UCLA and UC Berkely admissions is slightly less competitive than the acceptance rates indicate. This is all just me coping. I have no way of knowing if it is true or not.
Average admitted GPA has only gone up over the years. We can talk grade inflation maybe but on paper it’s only tougher. The ability to apply to multiple UCs at once has made the sharp kids apply to more colleges, too.

Just to add, the Pre-major designation is not only based on demand but also on the difficulty of the major. For example, Math at UCLA has a Pre-major status, even though it may not be the most in-demand major.
Yes. Pure math is hardest major there.
For some comical relief while waiting on decisions, here is the funny reddit post about difficulty of UCLA majors. (Hope links are allowed)
