UCLA Class of 2029 Official Thread

Best of luck to your daughters, and to all here! The UCLA applicant portal is down, so decisions are hopefully coming out tonight at 5 pm. My child was accepted at UC Riverside, UC Merced, waitlisted at UCSD – but didn’t get into UCD, UCI, UCSB, SDSU (!), so we are thinking that getting into UCLA is a longshot. But we’ve also got several OOS and California private-college acceptances (at LMU, USD, SCU, St. Mary’s), so we are grateful.

5 pm est? Or 8 pm est

What are the chances for admittance to the college (L&S) if unweighted UC GPA is slightly below the 25% percentile but weighted uncapped is at the median? Which GPA do they look at the most?

8 pm est/5 pm pst

Did anyone get the email asking for supplemental information last month

She did get into Davis, Cal Poly, UW, CU and SDSU so we are grateful too. She will find her place, even if it’s not Westwood. Waitlist at SB and Irvine so having much better “luck” than big sisters overall. She also went a bit more obscure with her major choices.
We are walking distance to St Mary’s. SMALL but beautiful campus.

Thank you. Do the other UCs (other than Cal) focus more on the capped weighted GPA?

Gonzaga, SMU, University of Nevada, CU Boulder (got into them all, some w/ scholarships) – but prefers to stay in California.

I was surprised that UC Davis and SDSU (!) admissions have become so competitive! Always assumed the ranking for UC competitiveness was:

  1. UCLA
  2. Berkeley
  3. UCSD
  4. UCI
  5. UCSB
  6. UC Davis
  7. UCSC
  8. UC Riverside
  9. UC Merced

Good luck to your C25! Our D23 turned down Cal for St. Mary’s last year - if you have any questions I’m here- it’s a fantastic school!

Thank you so much! We looked at most of the “California Catholic” schools and have really liked them; but we’re also looking at the UC schools and Cal Poly SLO. After this weekend, I think it will be time to make a decision.

All the UC’s consider 3 UC GPA’s but based on the Freshman profile GPA data only UCLA and UC Berkeley post the Unweighted and Weighted Uncapped while the rest of the campuses usually only post the Unweighted and/or Capped weighted. GPA is alone is not the determining factor and not reviewed in a vacuum.

I have posted this before but it is a good read to understand the admissions process. How the University of California evaluates student applications | University of California

My husband attended St. Mary’s! It’s a beautiful campus and great value for private school.

I have a sophmore at UCR. She chose it over UCSC and is so happy with her decision. It’s not the “top UC” but we are all surprised by Riverside. Better than most people think.
