Both of my kids got the supplemental request (last year and this). Daughter was waitlisted last year. No indication for either of why they were chosen for it.
There are no right or wrong actions. Perhaps just give her a big hug either way!
No. Not very competive UC gpa
Did daughter come off the waitlist
Thank you:) best of luck again to everyone here!!! You got this
The Augmented Review pool should be limited in size to no more than 15 percent of all applicants.
The criteria for referring an applicant for Supplemental Review include the following:
- Evidence of focus on an area of special talent which may have limited a student’s time to participate in a broader range of activities.
- Evidence of character traits that imply a strong likelihood of making a significant contribution to campus life.
- Evidence of significant academic achievement or the potential for academic achievement at the University in spite of extraordinary or compound disadvantage or learning difference, or physical disability or other unusual circumstances.
- Evidence of significant improvement in the academic record accompanied by one or both of the following: (1) reasons for the initial poor performance; and (2) sustained and in-depth participation in educational outreach programs, which demonstrate the applicant’s commitment to succeed academically within a challenging environment.
- Evidence of relative lack of access to, counseling about, or support to take college preparatory, honors, Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) classes or required college entrance examinations.
My application applies to like three of these points and didn’t get the supplemental request. If i get rejected is it worth mentioning this in an appeal? Feel like my app couldn’t have been read very well to not get the supp request
30 more minutes! good luck to all!
Thank you, Gumbymom, as usual!
The countdown is on! My daughter is a second year Bruin and loving her experience there (and it wasn’t her top choice, she ended up falling in love with the campus when we visited.) Happy to answer any questions, just here to help and share the fun. I remember decision time like yesterday it was such a stressful time. I wish everyone the best of luck with admissions!
This is incredibly thoughtful and kind to think of something ahead of time! The Ask Dr Lisa podcast had an excellent episode last week on all things college decision season, and one of my big takeaways is that the decision doesn’t define you (just like your stats/grades don’t either), you can control only so much, and there are so many ways that much of this is random. Everyone will find their right spot.
We’re repeating the advice from another friend who has a S24: “Love the school that loves you back.”
My kids didn’t fit any of these that we could identify. No gaps, no extraordinary circumstances, no extraordinary talents, alas
Did the people who recieved the supplemental info request get one or two questions
Yes, if you new information not previously disclosed on your original application which shows you are a stronger applicant then yes, it can be used to appeal your decision.
For 2024, UCLA had 1962 appeals submitted but only approved 5 but definitely worth a shot.
This is the UC Regents guidelines for requesting a supplemental but it can be very campus dependent.
my friend’s daughter has two questions.
10 mins i’m so scared
I just checked my application status and it states that my application status is unavailable even though at 1pm today I saw the application is received. What’s that really mean? Is that means the decision is coming out any minutes now? Anyone else see the same thing or anything differently?
Yes
it’s been like that since 10am
